Still after an acoustic?
I'd go and see Andy Hackett on Denmark Street... http://www.angelmusicguitars.com/
-
• #2703
Yep, thanks, I'll check him out.
-
• #2704
He doesn't keep many acoustics tho'...
-
• #2705
Wunjo on Denmark Street might be better for that...

Wunjo are nice friendly types. I've never actually bought anything in there tho.
Been watching these Matt Sweeny Guitar Moves things. They're great!
Dean Ween! Love him on Jimmy Page "the brownest guitar player ever" "king of the WAY over bend" "strings ringing open in the wrong key with FRAP and the guitar round his ankles". etc. So cool.
Dean Ween - Guitar Moves - Episode 6 - YouTube
This guy pretty much blew my mind (from about 10 mins):
Blake Mills - Guitar Moves - Episode 2 - YouTube
Check out this one with Josh Homme. How high? They're f*cking tripping their nuts off.

I was watching it thinking: Odd that he's sweating inside. You'd think they'd have air-con in the studio. Actually, they're both sweating. He's gone bright red and really sweating a lot. And talking fast and increasingly effusively. BAKED

Anyone want to hear a "lost tape" of my old band from around 2003 I just uncovered and posted? Horrible recording but... I kind of like it. The big outro riff section is in Eb because such a perverse bastard was I at the the time that I used to deliberately do things like that to make my own life difficult.

MXR make a 10 band eq that's quite well thought of, plus they do a Kerry King model with sweet tribal on it. Not sure whether the frequency range is really wide and thus suitable for a baritone or whether it just has more increments within a traditional guitary range.
Guy in a band from Leeds called That Fucking Tank uses a Baritone and last time I saw them play (admittedly a long time ago) he was bi-amping between a Trace Elliot and a Marshall JMP. Sounded good.
On a slightly related note, one of the best OD guitar tones I remember ever having was when I used an eq with the level way up to saturate a tube amp.
On an even less related, but personally exciting, note is I'm signing up to do a 6-7 week course to build a fuzz pedal from scratch. Haven't wielded a soldering iron for years (and was never particularly good) but this should be FUN.
That Fucking Tank are partly why I bought a baritone...great fucking band! Do you know if they're still going?
I'm thinking my amp is the problem to be honest...I'm playing through an old peavey bass amp with a 2x15 cab, I think thats what's muddying it all up. I'm going to try out a guitar amp through a 4x10 bass cabinet with a tweeter and see how that sounds.
Also got my eye on one these: http://www.tronographic.com/rustybox.html
you can only order direct from the USA though so no way to have a go with one first, the reviews seem pretty good though and Bob Weston's name is bandied around a lot so can't be all that bad.

Thanks Dooks. Liking that. Bit Clash, Billy Brag, proper Lodon sound

I like that too Dooks. Good tune!

Hey Thanks Captain P.
My little guitar hasn't turned up yet. was out of stock most places and the one place I found it were getting one from a branch in Belfast. I must chase them tomorrow.
Got a gig tomorrow if anyone's interested. Doing a set at this: https://www.facebook.com/FolkSessions
Whole band tomorrow. It's a top little thing at a cracking little pub. Should be fun.

My band Swan Fight has released an ep via soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/swan-fight
I think we're going to do something physical with it when we have some money!

This month I'm putting out a new record. Lots of things to buy - videos, pictures, artwork, mastering.
So why the eff did I just buy this beast
Cannot wait to jig it though. I love a bit of decent reverb, me.
-
• #2718
Looks great, how much did that set you back?
-
• #2719
£250. Just got it - the reverb is astonishing, instant Eno. Don't see myself using the trem too much, but the harmonic trem has more of a phaser/univibe type quality than a straight up volume trem, so it might fit into my sound a bit more. Great pedal though, oozes quality.

Oooh I like.
I'm on a massive Oh Sees jag at the moment and keep gawping at Space Echos on the bay. Wasn't someone here selling a CopyCat recently?
In other news, my tiny travel guitar arrived yesterday and it's beyond cute. Played it with this thread's famous Rickster only last night.

Sorry, only just seen this. I think TFT are still going but the chaps tend to focus on other stuff AFAIK.
The Rusty Box, yes I'd love to have a go on one of those! It might be worth having a scan of the Electrical Audio forum - there are plenty of English people on that board, many of whom will be Shellac fanboys - you never know, there might be a friendly Londoner who has one they'd be willing to let you try.
For that clanky, not too dirty bass sound I'm really pleased with my Tech 21 VT Bass - sounds great straight into a power amp!
Also heard about a boutique pedal company called Fuzzrocious for the first time this week, they have some interesting-looking pedals.

I have a Rickenbacker 4003 that I'm looking to sell. I bought it new in 2008 I believe but it's been sat in its case unused for the past 4 years so condition is excellent.
I'm london based so what are my options for selling it? How much can I expect to get for it?
-
• #2725
I think you'll be best off on a specific Rickenbacker forum but be prepared for extreme nerdiness on the specifics of the bass.
Basschat is normally good but you can't post Rickenbackers for sale on there, though someone might post a wanted add that you are allowed to respond to.
Bass resale seems to happen at a higher price point to cycling; you could probably ask for 75% of retail & see how you get on then let them negotiate you down to 70% (though go for higher like 80% if you think it's in really great nick).
Any tips on good s/h guitar shops in London? Or do I just go to Denmark Street?
