I only tumble dry after nikwaxing. Then I let the garments get up to a warm temp for a few minutes. Before removing them and drying them at room temp.
Otherwise it seems pointless, they are designed to dry quickly.
Its not a good idea to tumble dry too hot if a garment has taped seams anywhere.

I tried on the city rain jacket in the Raphe over the weekend, it's an odd garment.
Fit-wise it's really pretty aggressive, similar to the PTJ- so really not what I'd be after as a jacket I'd potentially wear over a shirt.
I could just get a large, I guess, to allow for some extra room, but it just struck me that the rain jacket felt much more like a garment from the "proper cycling" side of the fence.

Its that the Clear one?
Is it still packable in city mode?

The City Rain jacket is not aggressive at all. It's very box shaped. I wear mine all the time on and off the bike it never, ever looks like a cycling jacket.

You got the same size as you normally wear in the other jackets?
I did, and it finished quite a way above my belt buckle, and was really quite snug.
I disagree on the "doesn't look like a cycling jacket" thing.

Customer service is a funny old thing in England. I have worked in shops all my life. Sold pretty much everything from beer to handbags. Working in a shop serving people is just not respected by many here and both customers and shop workers know that. This makes for a very uneasy situation where even if the two parties of customer and server have no problem serving or being served they dont know if the other has. The more expensive/ exclusive/ specialised the item being sold the more this dis-ease is cranked up due to the added issues of class, race, and sex, "how can you afford/ know about this when your a (fill in noun here)", which we are often loath to confront and discuss.

I'm now thinking of wearing a jersey with a baselayer, and a gillet. In the jersey pockets I'll stash a race cape, a rain jacket, and a wind jacket. In the gillet pockets, because they are bigger, I'll chuck in a pro team jacket for hilly tempo sections and a hard shell jacket in the other pocket. Or I might wear a softshell...

This is my experience too.
I can wear a base layer, a shirt and, if it's really cold, a track top underneath without any problems and I bought it in my normal (m) size.

You're all correct re; the City Rain Jacket, however, they changed the cut recently when they introduced the new fig colourway. It's definitely more aggressive, I have the old one in orange, and tried the new one recently in store (same size/colour) and there is a difference - it's just very subtle on the official webstore images, hence the confusion. Not sure they needed to change it though as I actually preferred the older style.

Mine is fig. Furthermore, the change to the jacket was across the back where the vent position was altered. The front is no higher than before.

Merino roll neck - anyone got one?

Merino roll neck - anyone got one?
Merino roll neck - yes, I have the 2012 version and really like it, I ordered the one that is currently on the site (AW 2013) and sent it back as the merino wasn't a patch on the previous version, it had a cheeper feel to it.

This is all very confusing. Perhaps Dammit tried on the city wind jacket instead?
-
• #16318
Out of interest, has anyone tried the hooded wind jacket on? How does the fit compare with other jackets?
-
• #16319
Dammit has more manly proportions, shorter legs and longer body.
Dov could be mistaken for a woman.

I saw you yesterday lunchtime James, you were riding across the Great West Road near Brompton. I shouted at you to wear a helmet but you had your earphones in so obviously didn't hear me.

Hah, the exact opposite of me.

I am so fat that any time is lunch time, you probably felt a weird gravitational pull as I went past.

I was looking at the Rapha winter jersey a few weeks ago , but now I see that the PTJ is also in the clearance. I have a softshell, when it's really cold, but how does the PTJ fare as an alternative to a long sleeve jersey ?
Also the inevitable sizing question, I'm a comfortable medium in the softshell & brevet jersey, so do you generally need to size up or not in the PTJ?
Thanks in advance.
-
• #16324
Re- sizing, I would feel that they overstate the race-fit of the PT stuff, and the PTJ is certainly pretty stretchy so unless you're borderline between two sizes, I'd definitely go for your normal size.
I don't have the softshell, but I would think with layering the PTJ would be far more versatile - and really for LS, just get some nice armwarmers?
-
• #16325
I did all my winter riding with a merino base layer and PTJ, definitely adequate as a LS jersey replacement.
I've tumble dried mine on low. Still in one piece.
