• No rad stock paint job, would probably be a shame to get rid of the original paint.

  • its not original tbh.
    just flat yellow

  • Just picked up my 80s steel Pinarello from Armourtex. I gave it in last week and am totally impressed. Dealt with Steve and Duncan. The paintwork before was chipped and decals had pealed but chrome was in good condition. I wanted to save the chrome on the chainstay, dropouts and front mech hanger but had read fairly negative things about getting this done at Armourtex. Argos quoted about £250 plus p&p which was too much for me. So took it, chatted colours and finish and that was it. Quoted £95 for the frame. Keeping the forks as they are. Had a call from Duncan a couple of days later to discuss the restoration and make sure I was happy to clear coat the chrome. He even took some pictures of the frame after shot blasting as was impressed with the condition of the frame. Picked it up today and it looks awesome. Pics before and after to follow...

  • Did Armourtex put decals on the frame?

  • Can I say that I prefered it before?

  • Did Armourtex put decals on the frame?

They could have done but they need to go over the layer of clear coat so I'll do it myself once the bike is built up to avoid scratching the decals during the build.

  • I know it looks good in the photos (from seller page on ebay) but the decals were crumbling off (I'm told this is common with an old Pinarello) and there was a long scratch on the top tube that wasn't photographed. It exposed the chrome and I was worried about rust developing.

  • Hmmm... think I might get my none-moar-functional (put your dick away Ed) Boardman s/s powdercoated. Was going for full on beater commmuter aesthetics given how fugly the frame is anyway, but now I'm starting to wonder if I can make a silk purse out of it afer all.

  • Hi There,

I am thinking of powder coating a frame of mine.

Could anyone possibly recommend a place to go in London/Essex/Kent? - Ideally London as i am based there.

  • Armourtex all day long.

Got my frame plated last week in "Phosphorus" metal coating. Never been happier with the frame. I stripped the bike before hand but couldn't get the headset cups off, they did it for free and refitted them on collection.

Ask for Billy, he's a top legend.

Excellent service, coating is perfect, no flaws. Was recommended to me by my house mate who has had two frames done there.

  • Was up there today, thought I knew what colour I wanted but after seeing all the samples i'm back to square one.

Wanted a matt but 7011 gloss looks smart. Drawn to 7030 too though....

  • The 7030 looks really nice, almost unexpected for a bike. Got a pic of the frame it's going on?

  • Lots of colours...

  • Yup Armourtex, coated my Lo Pro and La Pavoni coffee machine base a couple of weeks ago. Great guys and very happy with the results.

Just a charge plug, brown leather saddle and bars so think that would look pretty old school

I asked them over the phone about doing a Mazzer grinder before Christmas and guy the was pretty awkward, so much so I just went elsewhere. Ended up just getting it sprayed, really happy with it.

7021 matte is nice, what my talbots rocking!

  • Anyone had a paint splatter job done at armourtex? how much did they charge?

  • Powder coating a go - go. Heard good reports about them so if the price is right then go for it.

Remember to be sure on the colour - its a real bugger to get off once its done.

  • Just a charge plug,

Can I ask how much you're paying?

  • I paid around £60 to powder coat gloss black a 70's BSA frame there, could have been slightly less as I cant remember but they did a stella job. would recommend. much wow.

  • My Atala in RAL 6021 (pale green)

  • Another one I had done ages ago - a mid 90's GT Tequesta MTB frame in RAL 8017 (chocolate brown).

  • I'm hungry now.
