  • I created a route on ride with GPS, from my house in Dulwich to the start of the hilly section at Greenwich, over all the hilly bits to the end, and then home again.

    Tried it at the weekend.

Garmin behaved badly and tried to send me over elliot bank twice.
And then I got hailed on.

It is abundantly clear from my recce that there's no danger of me being able to do this fixed.

    Gears for the win!

  • Thanks JAH Tim! Panic over.

I'm kind of tempted to give the route (or parts of it) a try out this weekend, but would that spoil my enjoyment of the ride itself? Who knows?

I've fitted something round and metallic on my back wheel that has the symbol "27T" stamped into it. Will that help?

I guess that depends on how many 'T's are on the other end of the chain....

  • ^I spent half the night trying to find the other end of the chain. It just seemed to go on and on and on. At about 3.30am I gave up. Might have to take it to the LBS today, see if they can find it.

  • Greetings people,

I hope all is well and the really intense training required for this ride is going well?

So continuing the 'count down' theme from yesterday...

    er no...

    er no.....

Right that really is enough you get the idea.....

It's time to announce that there are now only

days to go until The London Classic !!!!

Peace and love to one and all,
    Tim

  • Newsflash folks,

All info on this and the many other great prizes up for grabs is here

Remember folks, it's all for charidee......

Give thanks to all @ TLC.

    Tim

  • I spotted a certain JAH Tim riding his lovely bike through Balham last night.

I can only describe his style as "effortless strength". Seems the training is going better than he is letting on.

  • Still working on that outfit ...

    Can't tell if serious

  • 375% of £1 is £3.75 :)

  • Because, maths.

  • List... Name etc...

48x17... For the ill advised and inexperienced.

  • More Gears = more beers

  • Greetings and love folks,

Well a few little things to comment on.

biarritz - thank you... I was feeling pretty tired after a massively busy day at work, so I will definitely take 'effortless strength' as a compliment.

LFGSS maths club - well I only work in education, so no wonder I can't work out percentages. Thank you Indra for giving me correct sums. 375% of £1 does indeed make £3.75. So that means that raffle tickets to winning prize ratio is even bigger than I thought. I hope I have got this now correct that it is a 37,500 % increase on your investment?

Skully - yes the outfit.... I know SS14 , er that's spring, summer 2014, for the un-fashionistas out there, is now in full swing. With only just over a week to go, I think I have left it too late to pull off this look

With fashion , it's always good to stick to what you know. So most likely gonna dust off the Brixton Cycles kit and show my support for all things South Babylon-don.

Now then, the count down continues. and it's eight days to go

Hope all is well and please don't overdo the training. With a week to go it's time to ease up a bit before the main event.

    Give thanks,
    Tim

  • Route up on website!

37.5 miles, 28 cobbled bits, 6 hilly bits don't you know.

    http://www.thelondonclassic.org/route-2/

  • Nice to see Vicars Hill in, and I won't mourn the dropping of Fox Hill!

  • no fox hill :(
maybe I can squeeze it in
    before the start :)

  • Aw balls, I did a sneaky reccy yesterday and thought Foxhill a suitable lung ripper. There were a couple of road closures I found so I'll have a quick look at the 2014 route and see if they coincide.

  • Someone be a darling and make a .gpx of the route.

PM sent re closure of Albyn road.

  • Yay! Vicar's Hill!! Thanks TLC!

  • Had to pop out to get something to help with the training this evening, so before loading two bottles of Italian red into my bag I did a little loop up Honor Oak Park, Netherby and Canonbie. On my way I bumped into Jurek, who I think has also been out to buy training fluids, and he assured me that it was easily doable with any gears. He's slender whippet compared to my unfit 78kg, so I was not convinced.

But he was right, it is a manageable and brief climb. So all set for next weekend! Watch me collapse 200 yards short of the brow of the hill.

  • Though, on a more serious note, your choice of including A2 Shooter's Hill Road -> Deptford Bridge I think is misguided, it is not a good part of your ride, and I will avoid it. You could have accessed Loampit Vale a much more direct way, and avoided this horrible road.

  • Here's my attempt at following the route on Garmin. Feel free to point out navigational errors!
    http://connect.garmin.com/course/6087907

Hmmm, seems this only works when I am logged in, and that i can't export a course I have created in Garmin Connect. I guess I'll have to go out and ride the route and then I'll be able to export the activity.

  • Here's my attempt on ridewithgps:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4330524

Bit vague on the Rotherhithe St -> Salter Rd but otherwise should be close.
