I bet they're all going to IKEA and just inventing less embarrassing excuses.
Nah man. I could climb Canonbie backwards on 100GI. I really will be in a forrin country :
Fuckin love Ikea mind - all that furniture.

So the consensus is, the hills to look out for are Canonbie Road and Eliot Bank?
Any others?
I think I'll just use my normal gear. I like hill climbing.
If you can't manage, just tack. -
• #304
Eliot Bank is poo, not so much on account of its gradient, more so because of its surface - or lack thereof.
A vehicle which lays its own tracks would be well suited to that one.
Fox Hill is the cheekiest of inclines at 20%.
Canonbie is around 17% or 18% and has the added bonus of awesome views. -
• #305
Thanks. 1 in 5 (20%)? That is quite steep. Great. I'll have to go and check it out.
I'm looking forward to blasting over some cobbles too. -
• #306
Fox Hill was the best surprise from 2013.. I recall a few Raphafarians on carbon road bikes full of praise for the fixies among us :)
-
• #307
Ah. That'll teach me to swerve a whole section of the route after Eliot Bank. Never been up it. I can see which hill it is, parallel to Anerly Road.
Might do some training with the nipper.

Fox Hill last year came as a nasty/nice shock right at the end of the route - I'd not known about it except as painted by Pissarro, and it was a struggle even with gears.
-

Greetings and love folks,
Er what on earth is a Raphafarian?
Fox Hill was the one that did for my last year.
Here is a lovely painting of it by Pissarro
It's the last bit that to me seemed very steep.
Hope all is well...
Give thanks,
Tim -

Yep - Fox was a frisky addition. Short, but sharp.
I was impressed by the group of bromptonengers mashing up it.

fox hill was awesome and a lovely little challenge before rolling down to the pub.
the hills are all fine it was the cobbles that my ally track steed was struggling with last year. might wear wrist supports this year.

Greetings Jonny,
Yes with you on that.
Hills = fine
Cobbles = not fineThinking of leaving the East end cobbles and doing hills twice instead. I'm sure East London can survive without a visit from yours truly..
Give thanks,

Double-or-triple wrap on your bars could help Johnny - really improved the experience for me (even though I was on a lovely absorbant steel frame).

Greetings folks,
almac68 and cake - give thanks for the explanation..... I guess they can be spotted regularly in their natural habitats of Richmond and Regents Parks showing off their striped plumage.
Jonny - I'll see if I can find my passport and then we'll see about heading north of the river...
Skully - I am completely with you on this.......I have my handlebars double wrapped with brooks tape. I have found this to be very comfortable and as a result only wear gloves when it is very cold - it's only been five times this 'winter'.
Give thanks,
Tim -

Greetings,
Well this weather will do won't it.....
Here is the view on the Costa del Tooting this morning.

Let us hope we are blessed with similar weather for the 6th of April.
Peace and Love to one and all,

Nice!
Are we allowed to pick the coconuts en-route?

I never descend that street except by walking, not even geared with two brakes.
My missus gets freaked out when we *drive *up it. It's a 1st gear hill in our little Fiat.
In other, much shittier and less "csb" news: I'm double booked and can't do this now. Pretty gutted.
Waiting to see if a friend wants my place. If not, I'll offer it up here.

I ran up Canonbie last night. Coming down the steep side I was worried I might topple over forward and roll all the way down.
