It's nothing personal -

Hahaha! Scilly! I think I can make that happen!
No worries Master. We all have bad days mate... And it's the internet... So my feelings weren't hurt!

whats the deal with painting carbon forks? is it simple?
I want to get my vig resprayed at some point.
sand down the existing paint so it's textured then spray over the top. Then realise it's way too windy to do a good job outside and only do a couple of layers. Follow that up with a tonne of cheapo lacquer which seems to do absolutely nothing and you end up with a paint that looks shit, chips really easily, and the feeling you should have just paid Armourtex to do it in the first place.

^ that's exactly how I did my Dave Russell, that got indrad when in his possesion.
I think it's something we all need to try once, then you find out how bad/good you are at it.
My started to peel of untouched, before frame was even build up. I took it straight to Armourtex after. -

BMC needs a Supertype post. I would say a gold one but it'd match the stem, so… blue.

first full bike build, 1999 Fondriest Alu
fixie project, everything i need is in the post. :)
bit chunky for a fixie imo but I'm sick of the frame getting no use and i can't afford mechs or brakes :Lanyone else get really excited looking at essentially a bare frame?
can't wait to assemble!!(forks are only there to prop it up)

You using an eno hub or magic gear with those dropouts? Might struggle to get chain tension otherwise...
Good luck! -

Make sure you don't cut any bits off it so you've got a road bike frame once you do have enough for mechs and brakes and a suitable frame for a fixed gear build. It's too good to butcher, look at that tapered downtube!

yeah i was worried about that,
I usually jury rig problems when i get to them though (living life on the edge)
I'm sure ill sort something out. I heard a half link chain might help, (more flex?)and tom don't you worry That is exactly my plan, I have an oldish, "history uncertain" carbon fibre giant cadex frame that i don't 100% trust. Its really nice but it feels good to have a spare!

No, Alex's Cycles, Japan. Unfortunately delivery costs + import duty alone works out more than a pair of Soma Hwy One, but I was getting impatient so I'm telling myself at least it's not very often I need to change handlebars!

A quick check reveals that Alex cycles IS 'that guy on ebay'. I just spoke to the distributor for soma, they said that it'll be another month, minimum, before Hwy one arrive in the UK. So i'm going to bite the bullet and buy the Nitto as i'm fed up of waiting

Liking the way everyone is coming round to the M106. Regal bars are the new Spotter bars.

Ok, so my first bash at a build with gears and brakes. I'll probably want to try some longer/faster rides in the summer and I figure it'd be handy to have a "sensible" bike in my arsenal.
I picked up Black Dave off JB last year:
Unlike JB's awsome build, my aim was for something reasonably cheap to test the waters. Something modest, something solid, nothing bling. (At least for now!)
Anyway, Dave's been sat in a cupboard for months but just now I bought him:
- a black SRAM Apex group (£300 from Merlin)
- Shimano R501 wheels with bladed spokes (£67 from Ribble)
I know very little about road gear but but the above seemed like good deals to me.
Just need to source a seat, bar tape, some tires and I'll be set. :)

^ needs wound ups
p.s. is that a 27.2 post? If so, I've got a lightweight seat post, with an Arione and a saddlebag for you...
-
• #89824
Wound ups would indeed be sick, but they don't fall into the current criteria of a reasonably priced non-bling build. (Defintely a consideration for the future of this one though, which is undoubtedly down the HHSB path..)
The seatpost is some strange 26.X jobby, JB gave me one with the frameset. I'd like the saddle and bag though if not pricey. Send me a PM mate?

Spent the past few days updating my stable,
first is fun commuter, noting particularly fascinating about it
the rear wheel will not die... through 2 danish winters with no services..
Next up, parts bin build. Not sure quite what it is, I'm thinking of it as a fixed training TT bike (although I don't do TT's, it's just really fun to ride!)
Last but not least, new cockpit and cables, happy with the position.
(I know the wheels are anti, but they were free and none of these are planned, match everything LFGSS bikes....)
Ready, steady, BITCH!!
Needs a Brooks...
