polarised lenses are fine most of the time apart from as you rightly pointed out reading LCD displays and you might see weird lines on the windscreens of old cars, not modern cars though. They cut light reflected in a horizontal plane, so if you look at a river or shiny surface and lean your head to the side then there is a bit of a weird effect.
The benefit of polarised lenses is in their glare reduction for drivers, though it's rare here, very strong sunlight can cause a road surface to reflect in a peculiar way. I've experienced it in France, stuck my gittish Oakley riding glasses on and BOOMSHANKA! I could no longer see the bizarre mirror image of one car atop another in the distance. Never had that here though.
Cosmetically, Polarised lenses look the same as regular tinted lenses,
are you thinking of lenses with a mirror or to use oakley's terms 'iridium' finish?Your recommendation of photochromic lenses is not so good as they work poorly behind a car windscreen due the the UV protection of the screen.

Forgive me for not following your build with the attention it deserves, what stage are you at? Do you have the frame and rear shock yet? Did you decide on a fork?
My suggestion is to build it with the fork length that the company recommend or it'll steer like a confused hippo, use a 60mm stem or longer or shorter if you prefer, bars of at least 745mm and a rear shock with a platform that you can switch on the shock, not on the bars.
I assume that this will not help.

"Any of you undertaken a MTB skills course? Heading to Morzine in August and wouldn't mind ironing out a few bad habits. Any recommendations would be most appreciated."
As always I recommend Tom Dowie at Chicksands Bike Park, Bedfordshire. Nice guy, excellent training facility in sheltered woodland, a trail surface that dries quickly and if you're there at the weekend then a Thai food van that is second to none. I am utterly biased as I have ridden at Chicksands many times over the last few years as it's such a good venue, sadly I moved away last year.
I think @dancing james has visited him too.
If you're off to Morzine (I rode there last year as did @Howard I think) then it'd be good to mention this to Tom as there are a series of drops, similar to those that you will encounter in Morzine, that would be good to practice on.

Cheers for that, I'd seen that they were marketed as copies using the same circuitry as the pricier models, just wondered how true that was.
I currently use a line 6 POD to get different sounds, but it's complicated to use as it's got so many settings, combined with a tiny Orange amp that's got two gains allowing a pretty wide range of tones I probably don't really need anything more.
Just getting a bit overexcited.
