@hippy thanks for the offer (I’m over in Berlin unfortunately) and advice
@snottyotter and @oheyitsd I think the deore 10 speed option is gonna be the way forward, I can use the current cassette and zee derailleur with the deore shifter on another frame to save a bit of money.
I put the bike together trying to spend as little money as possible (taking parts of other bikes etc) but the first few rides made me smile so much that i figured I should invest some cash into it. I’ll most probably put it in the current projects thread as there’s a few problems I’m having trouble getting my head round. Chainline and tire choice (put on bigger tires yesterday but feel no where near as supple as the old ones, hopefully playing with tire pressure will help) are the next as it’s loosing grip and dropping the chain on wet roots etc -
@hippy nice, I think I’m gonna have to just fork out on a new derailleur, there’s a few deals about on a deore 10x1 upgrade kit for around 100€ with chain, cassette, shifter and derailleur. Hopefully deore are still halfway decent. Trying to figure out out what shimano shadow means is that a clutch!?!?

@hippy thanks lad, so in theory I could put a wolf tooth on my zee derailleur and get a 42 tooth cassette to work. I’d only have to buy a wolf tooth, new cassette and add a few extra chain links. This would definitely be the cheapest option for me I think.
Edit….scratch that just read the zee fr still has a short cage so unfortunately won’t work. I’m so confused 😂 -
I’m looking to upgrade my mtb rear cassette to a wider ratio, I’m currently running a 1x10 shimano zee shifter and derailleur 11-36. Could someone recommend a derailleur and cassette 11-42. I’d like to keep the zee shifter if possible. Seen a few deals on the deore upgrade 10spd kit but was wondering is the shimano cues system is a major improvement and is the deore derailleur a major downgrade from the zee. Is there an XT 10 speed derailleur with a clutch that would be better suited? Or just go to 11 speed? Thanks for any advice.

Watched The Master and Margarita last night, not everyone’s cup of tea but a close friend is in it. Unfortunately it was made before the Russian invasion of Ukraine so never got a proper release. If you’ve read the book it’s a good adaptation and feel bad for my mate as is some of his best acting but I think will go unseen due to it being a Russian movie unfortunately. If you’ve got a free evening please try and check it out.

Kinda it uses the same C9 tubing and design as the yeti but a few years later. What I was told was that it was made by a manitou employee as a personal project, he or she carbon reinforced the headtube etc due to cracking problems that happened on the alu manitou’s. I definitely think there’s a weight limit on the bike but like the c26’s this bike was never gonna be tested for production.

Nah you gotta scratch that Klein itch. I’ve always wanted to try one. And you have the Ritchey. I was thinking the same about the Yo Eddy I’ve always wanted one. Was thinking a classic period build but thought i really want to ride it off road so am gonna build it with v brakes or hs33’s and a 1x10 drivetrain. I know it’s most probably gonna break due to the rust and my over 50’s girth but should be a laugh

@bsb that’s so good! Perfect for Berlin

I saw a nice yo eddy last week being ridden around, had to stop him for a chat. He bought it in 1990 new, had some nice bullseye wheels and Paul brakes along with some other nice bits. Had a beer and spent 20 mins talking about old 90’s bikes with him. He just turned 60 and rides it everyday as his city/do everything bike… sorry about the non drive side pic.
He inspired me to get off my ass and build up mine… I got the rusted holes in the seat tube welded up and took it for sandblasting and powder coating. Unsure if I should clear coat over the new decals I stuck on or just leave them? The fork is made by Edsen after seeing someone on here buy one. I’m not gonna build it up retro correct, most probably v brakes and a shimano zee 1x10 -

Here’s my old 96 Marin Monocoque, Zee drivetrain, XT brakes and amp fork. Was way too small for me so gave it to a good friend that wanted to start riding for exercise (he had a Dutch bike for groceries etc). Due to health problems haven’t seen him in 9 months, saw him shining in the sun a mile off. He’s been doing 40 miles on and off road 5 days a week, he finally want faster tires.

My mate gave me a field to use 8 years ago, 1st idea was build a bmx track, didn’t go so well. It’s registered as farming land so I can’t build any permanent buildings on it (except a barn for animals). I ended up planting a few hundred Christmas trees along one side to stop the wind and try and sell. Sold around 50 one xmas but wasn’t really cost effective. We camp out in the summer and have a bonfire a couple of times a year. I’ve got access through the local woods and moved a couple of trees over the path so have less folk stumbling across the entrance. Biggest cost was fencing it off. Last few years I’ve let a neighbor rotate his horses into it. It’s really nice to get out of the city and happy to see it change through the seasons.

It’s been sitting in my parts bin for a few years and thought I may as well build a bike around it. I found some old formula brakes today off my San Andreas that match the white and red! Hopefully I’ll have it up and running in the next couple of weeks. I’d like to get some race face grips, headset spacers, pedals and a NW chainring (but trying not to spend more than 100€ on the build).

@Eeyorecore I was wondering if you might have an idea on the AC length of a 1” fat chance yo Eddy fork? I got a YO frame with a 1” steerer of a mate and am looking for a suitable replacement just not sure if I should be looking for 390mm or perhaps 410mm.

@young_gun @ectoplasmosis thanks guys, I’m thinking the wheels don’t really suit the build now as I’ve gone more budget on the rest of the components. The plan behind the rock lobster is a fully rigid fast mtb that I can really beat the crap out of with confidence.
So sad, RIP Hayley ❤️
