On yer bike, Shell!
🚴♀️🛢️🚴 Demo against Shell's Greenwashing Sponsorship of British Cycling 🚴♀️🛢️🚴
📆 Saturday, 15 October 2022, 12.00pm
📍 Shell Centre, Waterloo, London SE1 7PE (Next to the London Eye)
📢 Optional: Bring you bicycle or hire a bike, as we may do some angry cycling around the Shell HQ. (There's a big Boris Bike stand right next to it.)
✨ British Cycling announced a major 8-year partnership with fossil fuel giant Shell. It has already faced widespread condemnation from cycling and environmental groups. Join us for our demo to tell Shell that we see through their shameful Greenwashing attempt and to pull out from the sponsorship.

Thanks for sharing this here @Oliver Schick. I happen to be quoted in that piece (smug face) :)
Glad funding is back and more certainty with it. -
This needs a refresh. Happy to help but probably best coming from a level 3 trained instructor. Maybe @skydancer would like to do one? The industry is desperate for instructors, funding is secured for the next 20 months, what a better time to train as instructor?!
-
Thanks for sharing this @dancing james. It's great news that funding is now back on. Are you still instructing?

Hiya, how you getting on with your adult training with Bikeworks? There are plenty of providers in London and the going rate is £20ph, although it's been this rate for over a decade. A real terms paycut of 30/40%.
Many providers will pay lower than this though and there's been a race to the bottom with instructors being the ultimate victim - providers fighting over contracts offering it cheaper based on lower hourly rates for instructors. We unionised back in 2019 mainly due to the retraining, stagnant pay and worsening conditions, and despite most of our existence being under COVID rule, we've been able to achieve so much, I'd encourage you to join the instructors union https://iwgb.org.uk/en/page/iwgb-cycling-instructors-branch and organise your workplaces for improved working conditions. You may have experienced some cancellations in your work that may or may not have been covered. We really admire the islington cancellation model. Both @WillMelling and I work for Islington where we get 100% pay for group and school courses cancelled within 2 weeks or 50% if cancelled within 4 weeks. The cancellation terms are also much better for 1-1s and there's admin pay all @£20ph. Cycle Confident pay £18 per hour for 1-1s in 2 hours blocks. no admin pay and 24 h cancellation policy. It's crazy! CC pays £15 for school work if your provisionally qualified and £20 for lead £18 for co if you're fully qualified.
There are plenty of options out there, don't settle for too little and know that cycling instructors are in high demand at the moment so you can be picky.
If you'd like to know more, just ask.

Unique handmade bamboo bike stolen last weekend from a garage in Camden along with many other bikes. This one was was mine, hand made by me using a home build kit from Bamboo Bicycle Club in 2017
Size 55cm
Frame: Bamboo
Forks: Willier carbon Black
Campag groupset (Veloce and Mirage)
Axiom Streamliner pannier rack
Brooks saddle and bar tape
Marathon Plus tyres 700 x 28
Double sided spd/flat pedalsThis is a one of a kind bike, there isn't another frame like this one due to the nature of the build.
Distinguishing features:Bamboo
Some Brazilian tape around the tubes where the Hemp/Resin ends and bamboo begins, they are 'fita do senhor do bonfim' and look like the last picture. There are different colour tape over the frame.
There is no front mechAlthough there's a bike register sticker on the seat post, the police refused to register it due to no frame number
The photo with the brooks saddle and tape is the most current one.
Please help me find it.
Thanks,
SuamiPS. many others were stolen along with this bike, but they belonged to Camden Council which were used regularly for cycle training children and adults, community projects and free loans to residents and businesses

Morning all, does anyone have a 3 arm puller to remove a crank arm that's stripped?
Or any other tool that will do the job?
I saw this and it looks easy enough https://youtu.be/jrpIoXxVyTs?t=193
this is the product https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Gear-Puller-indoor-outdoor/dp/B009FDC80II can come to you with a frame and do it there and then if that's easier.
Thank you

Absolutely agree with you and @skydancer here. I was trained by Gill at CTUK and such a shame about what happened. It’s sad to see CC take over everything, eating the smaller providers (I still work for cc though).
And yes, we are all workers. Just not recognised as such. The apprehension some instructors had in the past were misguided. You get to keep all the ’perks’ of self employment as pointed out in the thersa link above. It’s a straight 13% pay rise as you’ll get pro rata holiday, pension contribution and a few other things. But you’re still as flexible as you are now. No change, accepting and declining jobs as you already do. It’s easy to understand why companies choose to label us this way. When we’re out delivering private 1-1s to our own clients getting paid cash or hypothetically approaching schools, delivering training and charging them directly, that’s self employment. What we do is we have been incorporated into someone’s business to do a job. Under their command. Flying their flag. We are workers and as a union one of our first asks was to be recognised as such. It was voted by members and it’s now being pursued by the reps, including legal challenge in an employment tribunal if (and it probably will) it comes to that. The union have done it before and has ongoing cases on this specifically:
I would definitely recommend you to join. If you’re a part timer there’s a part time fee also.
iwgb.org.uk/joinAny questions I’m happy to answer to the best of my abilities :)
Cheers
