My albion bottles have worn out (after much use it must be said). Are they recycleable do we think? My guess is propbably not right, as the plastic is probably some mad composite type thing but thought I'd check.

Really well done, 300 is a seriously big ride!
Without getting to numbers-y like hippy said even a wee bit faster on the road will help, jumping from 19 km/h to 21km/h you'll be back a fair bit earlier and that's not that big of a speed jump. also numbers-y is making the most of the good times while taking it easy. Is there a tailwind or is a flat and easy going? then use it and up your speed without going into the red. It can be tempting to cruise with a tailwind or when it's a easy section, but if you put in similar effort as if it was rolling or whatever there you're really getting a speed benefit without putting in "extra" work. It'll bump up the avg speed and lower your total time without penalty. It's also a bit lame but a HR monitor helps me to keep my heart rate out of the red but keeps me honest when it's time to work, eg if I'm crusing at 100 bpm then I could prob give a bit more. This is all in an effort to finish in good time. But again hippy is right, if you want to properly get around quickly being savage and organised at checkpoints will reduce it big time. if you stop 5 times for 30 mins that's 2 and half hours. you stop for 30 mins twice but 10 mins three times that's another hour off your total ride time and you've probably just gazed out the cafe window a little less and decided your saddlebag was fine as-is, and put your helmet back on and kept going.
So I've saved you energy with tailwind and two hours off your total ride time and you haven't done anything :)

I have not been convinced about any benefits from either forward or rear opening ends, well at least not for my year round fixed. If I do a half decent job with the track nuts I'm simply not a big enough rider to bother moving the axle. And the clearance for the mudguards is tight (as is the fashion) so I would have to deflate the tyre to remove the wheel regardless of whether it was forward or rear removal. And the only time I really want to remove the rear wheel is when there is puncture so the tyre is pre-deflated for removal hahaha. I think there's only been one ride where I wish I'd swapped the wheel around, but I'd only have to knock out 40 psi or so to do it. Most of the fixed frames I've seen either way have similarly lengthen ends, bar the odd pure track frame which can have some really long ends but are useless for the road (or Extremely Rad I guess)
Sounds like to me it's one benefit is for the secondary rear brake, but I don't run a rear brake....

Same as the others, I really like the insight. One thing I'm interested in but have zero knowledge about is the materials. I had the insulated jacket which was really lightweight but I think with sleeves generally too warm for general riding. My guess is that you took similar material and turned it into the insulated gilet? Insulated gilet is now my essential winter riding layer.
But both those seem to be made of different stuff from the Zoa jacket. Zoa is effectively my off the bike winter jacket / tooling around at 4mph. I'm very interested (probably on a tactile level because I'm not a materials guy) to feel the difference between the insulated range and old and new zoa to see how the combination of warm breathable lightweight works in the same shape and weight but reconstructed

My father is left and liberal. Taught art for 30 years, fought for better education and against illiberal school boards, supported all kinds of students life styles, votes Democrat hopelessly in Idaho.
