Strava route time estimation is based on your average speed over the last 4 weeks. Would be great to be able to customize the value... but its usually good enough. When I need that I just use https://www.gpsies.com (attached screenshot)
You can verify this info just by placing your mouse over the estimated time and the interface will show you a label with the explanation and your average speed.

He'll do it in 10 days without problems 🙌 I said goodbye at Ribadesella and although he was struggling a bit with sleep depravation he was getting to known roads and that always gets you and extra boost.
Because of the tracker delay I missed which road he was taking towards me and we crossed paths... I had to sustain 36km/h to catch him!! (and because he stopped at Pola de Siero to have breakfast 😱) https://www.strava.com/activities/1836598915, on the aerobars he's really efficient (Omar doesn't have them 🤔... is this guy for real?)
-
He's mentally fixed to complete it under 10 days! If he doesn't blow his knees... I'll see him just before dawn (I'm in central Asturias).
About the roads... I don't have much experience riding in the south (of Cordillera Cantábrica) but you'll usually find a Highway and a "national" (bidirectional road well maintained) linking two major cities, and everything else is just poorly maintained/without curb or is just zigzagging across the map to link small towns.

Omar seems a bit in trouble with his body/mind (source):
UPDATE: last hours was some of the worst I had to face. After the usual rest to eat something and rest, I felt sick and I had high fever. Maybe something I ate, or the big warm conditions faced during last days. Now I’m back on the road trying to go forward but I’m feeling really bad and without energies.
During last years I learned to fight in every condition but, at the same time, to respect my body. ..But the problem seems to have started a day or so before, because neither at his tracker https://frrt.org/tibr2018/r/8-omar or his gps from strava https://www.strava.com/activities/1824601122 shows him reaching Pico Veleta... it stops and backtracks way before de last zig-zags 😕 (neither he has uploaded a photo from the summit like Carlos or Clinton has done)
But also, after struggling with a gravel road on the side of a highway, both his tracker and gps where disconnected and reappear at Guadix... 🤔

Seems like Josep is either backtracking to take the coast route... or just scratching (more likely) 🤔 https://frrt.org/tibr2018/r/5-josep
Omar still making better average numbers than Carlos by a bit, but too early to say there's really a difference. He's the closest to @hippy we'll get with lots of complaining in social media 🙈

Trans Iberica started Sunday night, just 7 riders for the first year https://frrt.org/tibr2018/riders and https://www.transiberica.cc/ @CarlosBI 2nd but knows the terrain better than most from experience.
@hippy are you going to do a third TABR + TCR next year? Or PBP and something else?
-
@skinny you'll then be surprised how original is the TransIbérica Bike Race ^_^

Kristoff is a Secondary school teacher, not an english teacher. As a spaniard that has been using english on a daily basis at work for 5+ years... You can be sure I stick with the minimum amount of words to communicate, out of fear of saying/spelling something wrong, or not using the correct analogies or localism (I still can't distinguish the british version of a concept from the american one, because TV/Series don't teach you that). Not only me, any other co-worker, even the ones that actually lived on your country.. would expand much further on spanish since they still can throw with it a ton more words & quicker.
Also whenever I've been in a bar/shop/restaurant with sleep depravation, yes I've just ignored bored staff asking for the 100th time "where you coming from?" he's time-efficient... kudos for him about that.
BTW Carlos Mazon as well told me Kristof wasn't talking as much about detailed things, but I'm okey with that. He's the best on time and sleep depravation handling, I don't need to know all the details ... in fact I would love to discover things by myself sometimes rather than getting someone to explain it.

@CarlosBI is preparing another one on Spain for 15th of June https://www.facebook.com/laibericabikerace that is ~3500km

I had to go through a lot of back & forth both with merlincycles and kinesis staff to get the missing parts and also an answer about the 160 rear rotor (seems I was the first one to try it and dent the frame because of it). But after that I got a 140 rotor with adapter from Kinesis and missing small parts from Merlin and 👍. I loved my old Kinesis Convert2, it was an almost identical frameset (without discs and carbon fork), and that one got as well a lot of use and abuse without a single issue. So go on @jv you won't regret it (I hope) :)

No mention to any female rider on that documentary ¯_(ツ)_/¯, too much Mike and Kristof when there was a whole bunch of riders around, bald guy seemed like force-edited in the cut. Also Kristof and Mike where at some moments clearly annoyed by camera presence. Cool to see that close footage of both, but odd edit

The brake caliper has nothing to do with the clearance, if you see the picture it's not present. The problem relies with the disc distance to the chainstays. At first I thought it was my rear hub but after trying another wheelset I found out it was not.
Then I asked kinesis and they just sent me a 140 rotor for free :/, I think the welding are to blame here... that and the guy that designed the frame and put on the website initially that 160 rotors where ok.. then changed it to 140... last Kinesis for me.

Just discovered https://reveal.bikepackingsecrets.com/ because of a video from Mike Hall
, has anyone purchased and can tell if content is good enough? Website looks a bit funny like a tv commercial, but content seems legit -
I thought about using Doval as well on my Brompton, but I've stopped riding for some months, maybe on spring I'll retake interest. Are you planning to do so on your Brompton?
Anyway why I can't understand is why going for just 4%? Benefit in my opinion is just getting your legs a little less tired by avoiding that effort when pedals are at 12:30 position, I tried max % to see how it felt and was only thinking about decreasing it in case it was so radical I would get uncomfortable/injured.
I recall pedalling smoother while climbing out of the saddle with Doval compared to circular rings from my last rides, but can't truly compare if it was just my legs getting fitter.

I'm 6'3'' and about 88kg now. No problem with the Brompton for ~1h commutes or even 90km ride with 1500m+ (this link has photos). I think my model is S6L (Flat handlebar & 6 speeds) with some original fenders and the front bag. IMHO the front bag is much better than a rear seatpack... I can reach phone/water really easy while commuting or even "on route".
Price is high, but if you use it everyday it gets amortized. Like you I had many concerns, especially about the gears.. so I found a bikeshop that rented bromptons (and discounted you that amount from the brompton price if you bought one).
@hippy I remember Carlos (@CarlosBI) has one!
