Hello Forum,
Advice please - where is the thinking at for ridden all year / long distances / not racing wheels if I have £500ish to spend? 85kg rider. I've had open pro laced to campag centaur for 7 years now and the rims are about done. What to replace with? DCR has been extremely good on email and I'm tempted by his own brand ceramic rims and hubs with CX rays. Alternatives?
Suggestions most welcome!

Hello all,
In light of the fact that a baby is about to arrive in my life, I am selling some bits and pieces. Have a look below, feel free to ask questions.
All items can be collected from EC4V or N17. Postage a possibility, collection or london meets preferred.
Thomson Elite setback post. 27.2 x 330mm never fitted. £35
Brooks Swift Ti. Brought from here a long time ago, I never used it for the intended build, so it has been sitting around for a while. Have a look at the pics; it has clearly been used, but has many thousands of miles left. £90 ono
Brooks B66. Never used. Includes drawstring bag and original spanners in bag. Would make a nice perch for a comfortable upright ride. £60? Not too sure about the market for this!
Mission Workshop Rambler. A great bag in excellent condition. There is nothing wrong with it, I tend to use a smaller bag these days. I also have the waist belt for it. £150
Project Tortoise courier bag. Made to order for me back in the heady days when the forum was just getting going. There isn't much info about these as they were sewn to order. A quick google finds a couple of complimentary threads, but not much more. As you can see, it is a serious piece of kit in great condition. £80
Pics coming in a second...
Any questions, please just ask.
Thanks

Bump. I am currently cycling to Barcelona and will arrive on Wednesday. I need someone / somewhere to help me remove a rounded off seat clamp bolt so I can take my seatpost out to pack my bike to fly home. Can anyone suggest a shop that might be able to help? Anyone living there who can lend a hand?
Thanks

I've just watched the Adventure show; what a nice piece of TV! As mentioned above, a sympathetic and interested look at a marvellous ride.
Marcus, what were you carrying on the front of your bike? You seemed to find a bed each night, but the front kit on your bike looked like sleeping kit / drybag type stuff.

Ed has suggested something with discs. Do you want discs? They seem to be everywhere and on everything at the moment. I'm in a similar position to you, and am pondering a new purchase. I keep getting tempted by discs, but also keep reminding myself that rim brakes have been just fine for an awfully long time. A good dual pivot mid trop brake like the TRP RG957 has plenty of clearance for a decent size tyre and mudguard and will most likely meet all braking requirements. I keep looking at the Kinesis Gf Ti V2 on some good deals online and wonder whether snapping one up would be a good idea. The other thing is that the bloke from Kinesis is going it alone and starting his own brand which will apparently be some similarly practical but stylish stuff with disc brakes.

Try in the lightweight tent thread as well, I think they have had a mention:

OK, I'm putting this here as there tends to be plenty of general fitness chat in this thread, if there is a more appropriate one, do say so.
Weight / resistance training for 'older' adults: has anyone had much experience of this? I spent this weekend with my parents and was struck by the fact that both are beginning to lose muscle mass as they age (mid sixties now). Both are active - regular cycling, walking groups, gardening etc. However, I am increasingly aware of the fact that maintaining muscle mass as you age is extremely helpful for recovery from falls, general functional mobility etc. I do not think that either of them would be interested in joining a gym, so I am considering buying some resistance bands and maybe a TRX type set for them that they could use at home and I could demo for them. Has anyone thought about this at all for their parents / grandparents? Had any success? Been told to piss off as patronising?

I perhaps should have added that I'm running a Schawlbe One 28c at the moment, so there is a fair amount of bulge over the edge of the Open Pro. I'm therefore keen to get into the wider rim game.
