Jeez, as I sit here, 27 months into a 36 month prostate cancer treatment program (chemo-, radio-, hormone-therapy), I'm dumbstruck by what you're doing physically. During the tougher phases of treatment, I did try a few rides over 1hr but felt like it was really straining my immune system, and that's what I needed to strengthen in order to support all the medical stuff. I kinda surrendered to the treatment and the impact it was having.
Latest blood test looks extremely positive and I'm up to weekly rides of up to 3hrs now. Early on, I did have a fantasy of doing what you're doing, but kinda shifted from "fuck cancer" to "what's this cancer teaching me?" which sounds totally lame as I write it, and seems to have helped.
Anyhow, looks like you've got your warrior on, and frickin good luck to you. Hope the stress levels subside a bit - deffo not what's needed while going through all of this.
Subbed. Cheers. Ben.

I've done it on a few forks and never used a pillar drill and never had a problem. In my opinion, the most important thing is the drill bit - get a high quality ultra tough one and don't use excessive down-force when you're drilling. Lining up by eye, as long as your careful and have a decent vice, should be ample. Good luck.

Fake Cinelli (Supercorsa) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cinelli-Road-Racing-Bike-Vintage/322894346273?hash=item4b2e00b821:g:UHkAAOSwHYpaEy1O.
Bargepoles, shitty sticks, someone else's dong - don't touch with any of them.

Argos in Bristol are very good. They know the SC intimately having done a couple for Hilary Stone recently. They talked knowledgeably about the 73mm ITA bottom bracket et al with me - my paint is OK though for now, tho will get them to do it sometime in the future.
Fairly pricey, but absolutely top quality, and won't damage the frame when they strip it (heard of a horror story recently from another place that blasted a hole in the BB!!).
Argos is the only place I'd take my SC.

Engineering genius said that steel tubing doesn't change its properties over its lifetime unless it's bent, heated, rusted or compressed. He used some long words and basically I came away believing that a good old steel frame will feel the same as the day it was built, subject to the above. My utterly supreme 1993 Grandis Prestige attests to this.

@mashby - I'm a svelte 6 foot, most of that is legs. Medium is usually fine, and judging by the CdC website, it'll be fine. I'm happy to take that risk. Lemme know your bank details via pm and I'll move the money. Cheers.

@hippy in non-sequitur haiku tweeting controversy. "Shit restocking fail. Paid over tyre I skipped shops (pubs). This climb sucks."

There'll be some snaps here, perhaps? Only Skinny and Bjorn have passed it so far #notime4pics

@skinny getting close to CP4. Jonas (60) in 3rd did an amazing stint and is getting quite close now. Battle for 4th is gonna be a thriller. Looks like Mathias (23) diverted in response to the E81 warning and is going to follow Ian To's (16) scenic routing, but Geoffrey (93) hasn't - mebbe he has another plan... He'd better because Friday afternoon ain't gonna be pretty on that road.
Re Ian To's (16) routes, seems like he's avoiding nasty roads. I guess we'll hear at the end - has he been tweeting or fb'ing at all to explain his routing?

Sounds like Skinny's road (E81) was a nightmare. "Worst road I've ever ridden. Would never ride again, especially at night. So stressful." In fact, the race organisers have put out an alert to avoid that road.
Too late for Bjorn who must be on it right now, poor bastard. However, looks like Ian To and Jonas are on the right track to avoid it, and Geoffrey and Mathias have plenty of time to divert to that route without much of a distance penalty.
Looks like it'll have a bit more climbing though...

Good luck you crazy bastards!
