Have recently fitted one of these to a dolan frame but it just wouldn't stay tight or run smoothly.

I have since exchanged the bearing retainers for loose bearings and all his been great.

My question is when the bearing are in a retainer should the balls face the cup or the cone?

The egg beaters and the SPD-SL's might have a slightly different stack height. I'm talking mm's but to some riders that could be a lot. It just depends on you personally and how much you ride. Some guys can jump on anything and ride comfortably but for us unfortunate ones everything has to be dialled in precisely.

Not a fan of the rutel fits. I've used Diego @ De rosa bikes in Bishop Stortford. If your after Retul go to Richard @ Freespeed. Pricey but its a name I always hear good things about.

So I have some dura ace levers and the faceplates are badly tarnished. I was looking at new ones online but they are $30 for a stinking little piece of plastic.

@5awyr it will be fun. It will have so much to offer everyone. A tough one for the racers and the scenery for the tourers. Also a great stepping stone for anyone wanting to try their hand and unsupported racing before stepping up to TCR or TransAM.
