Hi, I'm skint so selling my Mercian (dammit!) and looking to build something up super cheap. I managed to get a frame but would love your crankset and chainring if they fit together? Plus I want to put a front brake on if you have a lever and brake set left?

I am skiiiiint so I am having to sell my Mercian which I have just painted and rebuilt. I need a cheap replacement so I have picked up a cheap frame and forks from @Jameo (stem and bars thrown in) and I am looking for somebody who might have a wheel set that I can get for beer money or just good ol' karma. I am in London and will travel and pick up from anywhere in this fair city.

Picture of Mercian so far..... frame number 38 from 1981. Mercian Olympic. SR stem and bars, Mavic wheel(s) and various other bits and bobs.

I want to treat my Mercian to a respray. I'm thinking ruby red with cream lugwork and I'm thinking of getting it done at Armourtex.

Attached a couple of photos but I'd love some feedback on colour choices....

Do you still have the forks available? Are they chrome?

That's a very decent price, couldn't build it for anywhere near that..... just built my own but someone is going to get a beauty!

So. I've just built my first fixed gear and I thought I'd post it up here to invite critique, ridicule and adulation. It's a Dawes Fox steel frame but I don't know anymore than that. Does anyone recognise anything about the frame? Any info about the build year etc? And that's a Brooks Pro S saddle with 0K3 stamped underneath.

I'll take the cheapest riser bars you've got if they're still available. I'm in hackney on Monday if you're around.......?

I've often heard that I'm a bit style over substance!

But I have heard many people say "build a sub-£100 fixie". It's not easy and you will inevitably compromise on something......

Just a note on colour. I'm afraid I'm not with the "leave the colour, it's great" gang. I've had a couple of fairly standard steel frames that I've converted to single speed and I've got to say there's nothing better than a crisp coat of beautifully applied paint - that saying, there's nothing worse than a badly applied coat of paint like I did on my first one! After that experience I had it done professionally by Armourtex in Hackney, about £80 for a brilliant powder coat job.......
