Two weeks ago, I had a monumental accident, nearly losing my eye in the process, but as the stitches were now out, it was time to get back on that horse !!!
Taking my nurse maid, we met a friend who said that he would lead us on a route the Surrey Hills, we had ridden on a lot of the roads, but this was to be a mountain bike ride.
Heading off from Peaslake, we quickly started climbing. This was fine especially after all the riding we had done this year. It didn't take long before we arrived at Yoghurt Pots, which we took slowly for a sighter, came back around and hit it harder. There were a few scary moments where I lost the front and memories of my face skidding on the road, but I banished them aside and kept it upright !!!
A long climb beckoned, all the way up to Leith Hill. We've ridden most roads around there, but off road, it takes you up to a tower, and a cafe within, something I never knew was up there !!!
Tea-ed up, we then went down, following bits of single track, we arrived at the A25 which we crossed over and followed some more byways and farm lanes. Next we crossed White Down Lane, and after more byways, we arrived again at the A25 at Arbinger Hamer. Up we climbed, a nice long drag before we had one last section, Barry Knows Best. A little bit technical, but once down, we rolled back to the car and finished the ride.
It was great to be back out, it was only 31ish ks, but over 800 metres of climbing, a nice way to start the weekend !!!

I have just sent a gilet, shirt and a base layer off to them. I realise that they normally don't repair merino base layers, but it was on its debut ride, so I have asked, can you patch it ???
By the way @markairsy1 how long was your turn around?

With Saturday being glorious, and I had to work, we decided to ride on Sunday. It was pretty grey as we rode through RP and out Cancellara gate. Normally, we swing left and head towards Bushey Park, but this time, with many left rights, left rights we were soon past Heathrow and into Buckinghamshire. After riding loads in Surrey and Kent, even though the ride wasn't hilly, the roads were super smooth
It rained a little, and as we came into Marlow, the sun was out, a little cold, but still very nice. We didn't stop, straight over the bridge and headed for the Quarry Wood climb, where the views from the top are awesome. I would like to say that this climb was great, but the road was wet and some fucker had dumped oil or diesel up the whole climb. I've ridden on ice but this was worse, my gf wanted to jump off near the top, but she stayed on and gingerly took it around the corner. Once she was happy that there was no more oil build up on the tyres, off she powered again.
Cookham had a nice Christmas fair going on, so we walked through the middle. Next up was Maidstone, quickly followed by Eton, and then we pulled in at Windsor for a coffee stop.
Back on the road, we headed for Didcot, Staines and Laleham, a traditional route for us, and as we neared Shepperton, something happened, we were on a flat, doing minimum 35ks, I was following, and my front just went, and all I could feel was face eating road !!! I came to a stop, I was pulled off the road and I sat there, many people around me, I could sense some blood, a bit of skin, I was concerned about my bike. A local took both of our bikes and locked them in her garage, whilst another lady drove us to the local hospital. They took me straight in but they told me I had ripped my eye lid off, and as they were not an eyes hospital, I would have to go to Guilford Hospital.
Once there, they pumped me full of morphine, morphine is a good pain killer !!! And then they started cleaning and stitching away. They got the dirt out, and started to pull the eye lid in place. It was horrific, but they did a good job.
Overnighted at the hospital before another specialist checked me out. He said, if it wasn't for your glasses, you would have lost the eye
Here is the incomplete trip !!! http://www.strava.com/activities/227443074

@apc, thanks.
@youramericanlover, your advice was awesome, my mapping was shit, I thought I could make it shorter, but hey, shit happens.
@lamby we found getting in ok, except the bit at La Defense. We found that there was a bike path so we stayed on that and missed the reds, I have mapped another way after my mistakes. So the plan is, when it warms up, we will take our road bikes, no weight, no staying over, just ride there, hopefully a lot faster
I wouldn't take my Kleins again as I wasn't happy with the way the bikes were stored. We have some nice road Kleins and I am very reluctant to use those so we will take a couple of different bikes.

I really don't know who to blame for this ride? Was it @lamby or @youramericanlover or even Picasso, but most probably Picasso as it took 5 years to re-open his museum in Paris !!!
As all the three above events took place around the same time, I spoke to Mrs Davros and said, do you want to go to Paris by bike? I told her how far it was, she was up for it as she'd ridden these distances before, but as we were staying over and going to some galleries, she wanted to take clothes, so we decided to take mountain bikes with a set of panniers
We set off at 14:46, and followed the L2B route, picking it up in Wandsworth, getting caught at every set of lights, and just after Mitcham, I picked up a puncture !!! Fixed quickly, and away we went. We had ridden this route 3 or 4 times, but riding in the night, going downhill was harder as you couldn't see the condition of the road !!!
Stopped off at Buddies in Brighton for a far to bigger meal, then rode into a headwind onto Newhaven, where we grabbed the ferry, had to little sleep before we disembarked at Dieppe
After the photos were taken, we set off and we ran into 2 problems. First of all, we lost the Avenue Verte signs, so we went around in circles in Dieppe, and then my 800 decided to factory rest itself !!! Once it was back, I found the route on the back and headed for the old railway line. In truth, it most probably is a good route, but with it being dark, the lack of sleep and the flashing lights, I thought I was going to have an epileptic fit !!! I tried the lights on full, but eyes were going weird. Sleep deprivation is really not a good thing !!!
We fought our way through, left the avenue and started following the roads I had planned, and it was far easier going as the sun was also coming up. We stopped off in Gisors for coffee as this was the first place that we found open and to warm up, and once back on the road, the next sign said that Paris was 88ks away. Pretty simple really, but then my mapping skills came into play, and I realised that I would never be a cartographer as the road we were on, became a dirt track, and then into a muddy field !!! So we pushed through it until we found a road, and two minutes later, we got a puncture !!!
Back on the road, we went from main ones to alleys and even through the middle of a gypsy camp !!! We saw it all, chased by dogs, it was a great adventure !!! But 15ks before the end, as we crossed the Seine heading for La Defense, there was bang and another tube let go
!!! Up and over the top of La Defense, we finally arrived at the Eiffel Tower in 23:50 !!! Maybe a little slow, but we were happy that we had cracked the 24 hours, so we took the photos and moved onto the hotel. before we hit the Picasso museum. I don't know if it was worth the 5 year wait as I had seen alot of the works at other exhibitions
The next day, we jumped on the train and came home

I took a bike last year in a cardboard box with Singapore Air, and the box didn't have a mark !!! As for cleaning it, it was dirty, but customs never checked, they did try to sting me for GST, but being an Aussie I told them that I took them out with me and was returning them home.
Pity you're on a track bike, the Victorian Alps are great to ride around, check out the climbing cyclist. Also, not far out is Bendigo and there are loads of empty roads and mountains out there as well
