Potter's Bar is a good one for a first timer, a few testing but reasonably short climbs and some rolling country lanes.

I fully intend to come up with a really good excuse to duck out of this at the last minute.

I feel I need to point out that the Surrey Season opener is supposed to be the week before the clocks go back, just to maximise the stupid macho bollocks that I think we are all a little bit past these days.

I've done far too little riding in the last few years so I'm really looking forward to Roydon. It'll be a stretch for me, but this is a route that very little can go wrong on, we can have a chilled ride and still make the last train, even if it means foregoing the pub at the end!

I reckon LOADS of grit salt went down a couple of weeks ago. I think it has a soapy element in it.

Just catching up on this and was about to postulate something similar.

A couple of years back I had a similar unexpected off at this time of year, just after a cold period. Like with this, a lot of people were reporting similar slips. I wondered if there was some sort of anti-caking agent mixed into the grit that gets left behind until a proper downpour clears it.

Anyway, hope you heal up fast Skully, and more importantly, hope the bike is ok.

That's not at all unreasonable. It's likely not about seeing better and more about increasing concentration on the task at hand.

And hearing the faint cracking sound as you nudge up against the car behind, indicating time for a sharp exit.

Though a milky way may be better...

Possibly for short trips, but the biscuit's extra durability could prove better for a longer journey.
