If you need to adjust the bearings you'll need a 5mm allen key plus (from memory again) 2mm allen key for slacking off the bearing preload adjuster sleeve.

I had this issue on my commute, I swapped out the 16T for a 17T. Same chain length, shifts fine.

Try getting hold of a hydraulic bottle jack.

You’d never want to go small/small on the sprockets/rings anyway, but you can trim the front mech by a click to move it away from the chain.

I broke my leg falling out of bed as a child, and as a result have a Charlie Chaplin-esq right foot, which when lying on my back points out at about a 40 degree angle.

The only issue I’ve ever had when cycling is finding cleats that let me set an appropriate angle for my foot without bashing my heel into either the crank arm or rear stay.

As others have said, don’t rush it. I’m sure you’ll find something suitable for your set up.
