Building up fixed commuter/errand bike. I’m planning on putting a big ole basket on it so drop bars are out.

So, I’m looking for either some risers or flat bars with a 31.8mm clamp. If you’ve also got some levers that would be a bonus.

Cheers, I'll give a Wald a bash then.

Wald is confusing, some places claim the 1392 fits up to a 31.8mm bar and others say it's only up to 25.4mm.

Ideally, something along these lines: https://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/wald-1392-woody-large-basket-silver. It needs to be sturdy enough to take a bag with a laptop/shoes etc.

Does anyone know of a sturdy front basket that will mount onto 31.mm bars? I'm turning my old Dolan into a commuter/errand bike and struggling to find something that will fit on the Deda Zeros it has on it.

I realise this would probably be easier with risers, but this is a parts bin build so it's kinda run what you brung.

It's pretty well balanced. Like the writer, I've been to plenty of STW and STW adjacent events and, while it is only a minority, there are still some people on the left who view imperialism as purely Western phenomenon. It's a weird outgrowth of the old school tanky left and the Iraq war.

I know 31.6 is a reasonably common size for a track bike, had a Cinelli that was that size. But 31.8?

I think you might be right. It's supposedly an old British Cycling training bike from early last decade (seller bought it from Glasgow velodrome). So that would make sense. It doesn't have the rear brake mount a FXE has either.

Just picked this up cheap as chips for a budget commuter/city bike build. Does anyone know what it is? It's not a Pre Cursa, is it an early FXE?

Also, the seller has a very short seatpost in there atm, which needs replacing, and he's adamant it's 31.8mm. Is this right? 31.8mm is a bar clamp size, no?

I don't know whether it's because it's winter or because the traffic has returned post-pandemic, but there's been a lot more crashes at Regents recently. I've seen a couple this year already after not seeing any for months.

If you don't mind me asking, how have you secured the garage? I've been thinking about doing something similar for a while (it's kinda the dream) but a lot of the estate garages near me that are up for rentals look mighty easy to break into. I know that's 'what insurance is for' etc but it's not really the point.

I guess you can't really put an anchor in the floor either if you're renting?

Mostly road and cross but not averse to the track or big knobbly bikes. Can usually be found in Regents, Essex Lanes, or falling arse over tit in Epping Forest.

Road: Weight weenie CAAD13 in matte black (hate the colour and look of it, love the ride quality).
Cross: Florida green Trek Crockett
Track/pub: Very old Dolan Pre Cursa

Past loves

Road: Silver SuperSix that met its end climbing Mott Street.
Cross: Cinelli Mash SSCX (selling it is my greatest regret).

Sadly several sizes too small :(

Those are all from my era of BMX (early noughties to early teens). Just spent ages on the Make website and their whole team is UK street riders I loved growing up. Nostalgia trip complete!

I'll stop taking over the SSCX thread with reminisces about mid-school BMX now.
