Ha, just when I decide to give away my silly little 20" shopper rat bike, this one and this one come up and make me rethink everything...
Maybe it's some silly handlebars and a set of bmx wheels away from being worth keeping after all

Giving away this "Capital" folding shopper bike. It was an impulse Gumtree purchase a few years ago that I haven't really used as much as I thought I might. Could make a cool small wheeled beater with a bit of tlc and some BMX wheels... Maybe?
The good:
- You can lock it up with a cheap chain lock outside wood green station for a whole weekend and it will be left untouched
- I made some "upgrades" from my parts bin so it has some mtb old school mtb grips, pedals, levers and saddle
- comedy rock shox sticker
The bad:
- it's been left outside for 2 years and it shows..quite rusty and generally in a bit of a state
- tyres, wheels, brakes are all pretty fucked and would need swapping if you have any serious plans for this bike
- has a Shimano "positron" style internal 3 speed hub. It works, but if the cable breaks then it's difficult to find replacement parts. I also read somewhere that they're notoriously difficult to service.... If I had the time / money / inclination I'd get some BMX wheels and be done with it
Collection only from Wood Green N22. I wouldnt recommend cycling it home unless you're just round the corner. Best to bring a cargo bike/ trailer / car / whatevs. Front tyre has a puncture but it's fairly slow so if you do ride it home I'll pump it up before collection.

Yep I still have them, so if @HarryK is un-dibsing then you're welcome to them

old-man-paced rides
I am frequently overtaken by old men, I prefer the term 'party pace', please.
I've grown to love (accept) cantis tbh! Never been a conscious choice, they've just been on the only three bikes I've worked on so I don't know any different. But they stop me and I don't need to touch them once they're set up. The third hand tool has probably saved me many hours of tears tho.
But that Trek looks so good... Not as good as Raleigh, obv, but very good.
Thanks βΊοΈ. They've both been ridden more than tinkered with in recent months, hence the lack of updates. Raleigh is due some larger tyres and guards soon, and I've been contemplating upgrading the chainset on the Trek to the spa cycles triple (or similar). Chainrings are getting pretty sharktoothy.

Ah thanks :) Yeah I do like the look of the swept back bars on hers, but I think if it were mine I'd go with drops and down tube shifters. It's also gained a lovely old brooks saddle since that photo was taken, but still needs larger tyres, guards and a rando rack, when funds allow.
Interesting about the different models. I actually haven't done any research on the bike so I'd be keen to know what you find out!

Noice. I've been slowly working on one of these for my partner, recently took it on a mini tour round Wales too! She loves it, albeit less excited by the spoke holder than I was. Lovely frames though. Hadn't realised it's actually a Randonneur, good info!

My commuter has developed a proper loud squeak, only while pedalling in certain gears. I'm pretty sure I've located it to a very gritty feeling pulley wheel on the (presumably 20 years old?) shimano STX rear derailleur. My questions are: 1.) is servicing / replacing the pulley wheels worth the hassle compared with just replacing the rear mech altogether and 2.) if I replace the pulley wheels, any ideas what parts I'd need? I know I need to get the right number of teeth, but do I also need to get a 7-speed specific pulley wheel, or would something like this be ok? Ta!

Noted, and apologies for going quiet on this thread, been a busy work period and I'm currently not in the country
@DylboBaggins here's a photo of the brooks. Some others have PM'ed with interest but wanting postage so if you can collect then it's yours
Will measure the ITM bars when I get home next week

I'd considered doing the same the last few evenings, try out some of this non violent communication I've heard about. Usually end up just fuming quietly and muttering to myself about what selfish cunts they are. Good on you for having a polite word, he was probably being defensive at the time but you never know, maybe he's given it a bit of thought now

Very good point, although mine has just been gathering rust and cobwebs for months. I guess there's an art to striking the balance between "just shite enough that no-one nicks it" and "so shite you never want to ride it". Still, I've been inspired enough that if I find some cheap enough wheels I'll probably keep it
