Ha, don’t take my word for it, I’m still in denial about espresso and trying to convince myself that pour over is more than sufficient. If I ever get to go back to work I have access to proper commercial espresso machines but sadly haven’t ever taught myself how to pull a good shot, I must remedy that!!!!

Thanks so much all! More conflicted than ever now...
@dancing james would you have gone for the large koda (gas only) then in retrospect over the Pro?
-
-
Thanks, yep I will definitely enjoy the process around wood fires, I just think it will be crazy not to be able to use gas if I am being lazy given I already have the gas bottle for homebrew purposes and would probably regret if I went gas only!
Anyone got experience of the difference between Pro and Karu, are they bad at promoting the upgraded options with the pro or is it just the fact it is much larger, has a two doors and says Pro in the name that makes it double the price?
-
With the current 20% deal on Ooni now seems to be a very good time to pull the trigger, and delivered in time for spring, which seems acceptable.
Pretty sure I want the flexibility to switch between wood and gas, or put another way definitely don't want to be deprived of playing with wood fires but will probably end up using gas more often...
Advice please though, how do I convince the other half we should buy the Pro over the Karu? Is it just size and therefore flexibility to cook different things such as meats of bread or is there a significant difference in quality of materials and/or construction that justifies doubling the price?
Thanks

Cracked yesterday, disappointed in myself that I couldn't wait until today. Went for some Oggs Luxury Handmade Mince Pies from Sainos, disappointed again, seem to have a very high apple content in the mince which made them almost gluey in mouth feel. Yes they are vegan but don't see why that should mean they replace good old sugar with fruit... Pastry was nice though. Time to get stuck in with out guilt now it is December!

We have the GSD for family transportation mainly, 3yo and 7yo nursery/ school drop off. No technical problems so far, only had it 4 months though, fingers crossed it stays that way! Absolutely brilliant bike though, super practical and stable and easy to control, although upgrading the kickstand is a must.
Sorry, no experience of the HSD though!
-
I like the look of them as well, but concerned about security given it will be visible from a main road and housing an e-cargo bike. The "Are Brighton Bike Sheds secure?" section in the FAQ does sound like they are pretty well engineered but if anyone has some real world experience I would be very interested too!

Well done, sounds like you had to dig pretty deep on that one!
Ended up turning back in a random field when I couldn't find where the footpath left it!
Ha, been there too many times!
I chose my turn around point having taken the wrong path again without noticing and could no longer be bothered to retrace my steps and find the right route for the hundredth time!

Well spotted! Was supposed to be doing SDW100, didn’t want to waste the training so signed up for Day Release last minute! Finished this morning, 31 miles ATCF in 19.5 hours, 80 miles on the watch so not very efficient at all. Would have been a couple of hours over at least if I’d gone for 45. Brilliant run, no issues and don’t feel too smashed up so pretty happy with that!

I bought a cargo bike at the end of August on my work scheme for the school and nursery run (as well as the commute) and general not needing to use the car hauling. Had to get work to update the HR policy to allow for the increased values but once that was done was an easy process, all the details were dealt with by the Cyclescheme, work just had to process the approval and pay the invoice. Think I might be lucky with a fairly positive company when it comes to encouraging staff to cycle though.

Assuming you aren't completely broken after the 55 miles and recover pretty quickly you must have a pretty good base of training and mileage, especially given the time taken. The jump from 50 to 100 miles is more about mental strength and motivation and good logistics / fueling in my opinion. Keep up the training and find a race or challenge that excites you and you stand a good chance!

I have issues with Vivos too, I have a long second toe, one size just about fits me, but with toe touching end but are really too narrow as well but tried the next size up and they felt like clown shoes, so large I would trip over in them so sent them back.
I've got the Escalante 2s as well and love them, I like running in the minimalist shoes but can't do it for long distances, stones etc just get too painful so use the Escalantes for anything over about 16 miles or rough surfaces as has just enough foam to cushion but still zero drop and pretty flexible.... The Escalantes are super soft at the toe box end so I think that helps with the long second toe and I did go half a size larger than normal but without feeling like clown shoes.
I also have the Xero HFS, I prefer these to the Vivo as they are a tad wider and roomier but nice and minimal.
Ideally Vivo will start making a wide foot option one day!

Yeah I was on a dual carriageway hard shoulder in the middle of the night with not very impressed lorries but conversely I think I had more annoyed drivers on small roads in daylight where pavements just disappear for stretches. Just got to keep calm and jump onto the verge where ever possible!
Looking forward to SDW, will be my first Centurion event, obviously was supposed to be in summer so will be a rather different experience in the dark of November for 12 or so hours!

Yep, powerbank charging while you go, although I only just realised you have to have USB mode set to Garmin rather than mass storage to get a Garmin to charge during activity. Wish I had known this for EFM, wasted a lot of time trying to charge whilst tracking, gave up and borrowed another watch, ended up having to combine three GPX files in the end!
The ultratrac thing for garmin saves loads of battery but also massively underestimates distance in my experience.

Ah so jealous, will be dot watching and cheering you on, hope it goes well for you.
I have SDW100 the weekend before, if that ends up cancelling I would be very tempted to pick up an EFM place, there seems to be loads coming up for sale at the moment!
Not sure what "pro tips" I can offer, I just copied the route from the winner the year previously, made sure it didn't have any weird glitches in it and followed that on my watch the whole way! What direction are you heading? 104 for 92 atcf sounds pretty efficient, although Guillaume (2018 winner) was claiming to have a 96% route but can't make it this year due to quarantine issues.
Happy to help with any specific questions if you have any, but given SDW100 will only be my second 100 I'm very much winging it anyway!

Decided on the Ooni Pro in the end, thanks for all the helpful advice, hopefully I made the right choice.... Will find out in March!
