Cheers all. Goes back to the old adage that if a deal if too good to be true, it often is. Was thinking would be worth it in parts but it's in Northumberland which is so far away. Slightly worrying that a seller can be so intrinsically disingenuous (not saying it is damaged) and have 100% positive feedback across 604 transactions.
I did once buy a crashed Mercian for like £70 that my uncle picked up, seller didn't say it was crashed and I didn't spot it in the pictures unfortunately.

also cheapish mercian. I'm literally about to pull the trigger on it so PLEASE don't buy it. Asked the seller what the wheels are. Looks to have some kind of threaded to threadless converter on it.
There is a dent which looks cosmetic only - is that fork crown area okay though? Looks slightly dodgy to me, like the gap between the headset and fork increases as you move towards the caliper

@aggi please can I have it? have a mate at UCL who could pick it up for me :)
-
@Stonehedge absolutely! Thanks again for the shout, been emailing with him about it.
-
@freddo Robert Reeves said, included in the full service charge are the steel screw down winder, case tube, mainspring, plexy glass, case seals, refurbish case/ bracelet and that gets a 2 year guarantee. If I go with him, I'll speak about the refurbishment and see if it is necessary

@J0nathan cheers for the input, will stay clear of them then now I’ve had some other people recommended.
@underuser53929 – thanks, will note them down. For now I’ve emailed Robert who @Stonehedge recommended, thanks for that. Impressed by his website and credentials/ Rolex experience. Do you post the watch to him? He’s in Cornwall!
@freddo thanks for the insight! Why would they do that? I was quite taken back by their quote and it seems unnecessary to spend that much on a watch that works perfectly fine to me, though I don’t know anything at all. Having said that, due to hardly any recent use and definitely having never been serviced, someone recommissioning it seems sensible if I’m planning on getting some new plexiglass and the strap changed anyway. Not sure about missing endlinks, hopefully not, will check. If someone here can help that is a bonus :)
Found it in a 1983 brochure I think too

replying to page 1163 where I introduced my dad's 1983 Oyster Speedking or 'Oyster Perpetual'. We are keeping it and it'll be my 21st present in a couple of months as 34mm is too small for my dad to ever wear. Thanks for making me see sense. Need to service it, put the old strap back on and some new plexiglass. It's manual.
Just popped into my local rolex dealer: £525 for a full service, £20ish to send it off and that takes 12 weeks with the fixed price, if nothing needs replacing. It is in full working order so it hopefully will just need the service and some new plexiglass. Going to round that up to £600 with the glass - is that the only option I have for a service or could I go somewhere independent? Also need the strap changing back and sizing, which I'd guess they'd do in store to get the right length?

@yetidamo if you hover over the next gen sherpa on the home page, it says 27.5+ 2.8". If you click on the model and its description, it says 3” Plus tyres on super wide plus 27.5 rims. Will be interested to see the clearance when it's built up.

@farewell thank you :)

Looking to help my girlfriend get her first road bike. Probably second hand, £500 ish budget. Does it need to be a women's road bike and if so, any recommendations? or can I go for a 52cm ish men's bike where there may be more available second hand? She is 160cm. Not too sure about the fit on my own bikes so any advice is welcomed, cheers :)

cheers @Landslide & @branwen will do :)
Seller replied to my message and said the wheels are 700c Mavic cxp 22. He is adamant that he bought it off the original owner who was genuine. He has never crashed it and has clocked 42.9 mph on his Garmin on it. It has a rear view mirror on it. He see's my point about the angle of the forks and said they look the same as his other two bikes, and encouraged me to view it. Still not going to get it but hmmmmm
