I thought I wouln't open a new thread for my question...

Do you need you replace the bearings when the hub becomes loose, or they can be tighten?

I'm quite confused, because in a bike shop I've been told they need to be replaced, because surly hubs can't be adjusted, but then I see this in the surly website:

Your Surly New hubs use adjustable cartridge bearings (like many threadless headsets) so that the 'play' that develops as bearings wear may be adjusted out. This will allow longer life from the bearings assuming they are adjusted properly. They adjust like loose-ball hubs, in that they work on a cone and locknut system. If you know what that means, you may already know how to adjust them. Regardless, if you are not sure what you're doing we highly recommend taking them to a competent professional bicycle mechanic. If you think you might know how to do it but just have some questions, feel free to contact us. The long and short of it is this: make sure your Surly hub bearings are properly adjusted, and when they need adjusting have them adjusted by someone who knows what they're doing. Our New model hubs all use 7901 series adjustable sealed bearings. The black seal should always face outboard. Or if you want to take the guess work out of the equation try 6901 series non-adjustable bearings.

Please note I wasn't told "it's not worth to adjust them", it was "they can't be adjusted".

    Thanks!

Hi Dakin, sorry I haven't been able to check the forum the last few days, bullhorns are still available if you interested.
    Cheers

Surly open bars, as new, only with a few scratches while being removed. They came with my Steamroller, it only took me a couple of rides to decided they weren't for me. Fitted with grips.
    £25

Profile Design - Airwing DB Bullhorns. With a bit more wear, but nothing that tape won't cover.
    £15

All items in Old St. Can be collected pretty much any evening.

    Cheers.

    thanks for your replies!

@Xabel - SKS Chromoplastics + P-Clips are the way too go. Read back a couple of pages on this thread.

Thanks, will have a look, but...
even for 32 tyres? There doesn't seem to be enough clearance for "proper" mudguards.

Hi, another new Steamroller owner here!

Question about mudguards: I was quite happy with the Crud Roadracer I had in my Fillmore (stolen), so I was wondering if anyone has tried them on the Steamroller with 32 tyres?

I know the maximum tyre size recommended for the Cruds is 25, but it seems that there's some tolerance...

    Thanks!

    Picture is now attached...

Unfortunately this is my first post, not a good way to :(

My Lemond Fillmore (61cm frame) was stolen from the shed out of my flat (EC2A 3EE) yesterday night.
It looks like in the picture, but with drop bars and crud mudguards. Both tyres are Maxxis Re-Fuse 23c black.
It's got a WTB Rocket V Titanium Saddle, 48t chain ring, tektro front brake lever and a QR support for a carradice bag... don't know what else to say.

By the way, it was marked by the MET police, is there any reason I shouldn't post here the marking number and the serial number?

    Thanks,
    xabel
