Thanks so much for all your really valuable advice! As you say, it's totally the emotional attachment. I have been all over with the bike, including, the Dunwich Dynamo.
As awful as it is to have your beloved bike stolen, it's heartening to know that the cycling community cares.
There is now also a Twitter account @stolen_langster if anyone reading this could please take the time to retweet a tweet from there that would be hugely appreciated.

Stolen Specialized Langster, Silver, 2009.
A much loved bike with much more emotional value than financial value.
Stolen in London Tuesday 10th January today between 3 and 4 PM from Blackfriars Road near Southwark tube station.
Stock with no changes to it.
Looks exactly like the attached photo.
Many thanks in advance for looking out for it and any help you can provide.
