We have noticed an increase of stolen bike sightings on Facebook marketplace.

On top of other online sites -boot sale style apps and the sites covered by bikeshd.co.uk.

We want to kick-start a much needed conversation about 'bike-stripping' in London.

#HalfEatenRide - visually documenting every half eaten ride in London. - come join in.

Yes it's very low, which makes it all the important for the cycling community to help the police.

Please take a look at our new stats page for the Met police. The 'sanction detection' rate for 2017 is standing at 1.7%.

A map we have created that shows every stolen bike reported to the police (London) in 2017. Over 21K records (and that is just the reported bikes).

We are keen to talk to anyone who has had a bike part stolen in London for some content we are putting together. 'Bike-stripping' is an issue that is rarely talked about and we want to put a spotlight on it! Got a story that you would want to share?

    Thanks

We had a stolen bike spotted + recovered at Vauxhall market today. It's worth keeping an eye out there.

Hey Oliver. It's hard to tell, as there is no pinpoint accuracy. A dot might be a 100 metres from the actual theft location. I doubt they would put the coordinates of someones house or business.

This is what they say on the police website about locations:

"Location Anonymisation - The latitude and longitude locations of
Crime and ASB incidents published on this site always represent the
approximate location of a crime — not the exact place that it
    happened."

In the data, locations say "on or not near X road".

In an ideal world we would be able to see the rate of theft on a cycle parking level - that would be great. We also wish there was formal public data set for cycle stands (all councils publishing data) - OpenStreetMap is user driven so lacks controls.

    The London cycle parking map.

We have pulled out every London cycle parking location that has been entered onto OpenStreetMap + created an optional layer of police data - reported stolen bikes (over 1 year).
