  • Ah, I managed to squeeze in my Archetype and 30c tyres without too much trouble, the overally space for a big, fully kitted out bike was more of an issue. But yeah I agree with you, great design ¬_¬

  • Take a toe strap (or similar) and it can be used to tie a wheel up to the hook. I managed to get a mountain bike with 3.0 knobblies onto a GWR train recently.

  • Also...would love to come but I'm away riding bikes this weekend and no way I'll get another pass. Annoying, as I'd love to do this or something like it one year.

  • Good tip!

However, I refuse to bodge a way of hanging up a bike on a hook that someone has been paid good money to design and hasn't thought to investigate the variables it might have to cope with. Not even a little bit. I'd rather huff and puff to innocent train managers about it.

  • Ah yeah, as you were.

  • You're right...

Best not to derail this thread.

  • I want to try and come along, if I can get the day off. Don't worry about me upsetting the finely balanced bike bookings, if I make it to Bristol I'll hang out there a bit doing some fixie-skidding, so can get a later leisurely train.

  • Always up for a silly extension.

Re bike hooks, I was able to squeeze my 38mm deep crabon rims with 30c tires onto the hook, I remember it being a a hassle but didn’t inflict any damage.

  • I can have the day off work after all. I'm in. Not in any rush to get back on Friday so civilised breakfast sounds good...

  • Always up for a silly extension.

    Uh-oh

  • I'm testing my long distance legs on Friday but let's not go crazy!

Anyway excellent work @cagimaha and others with inside GWR knowledge. Truly they are the UK's jobsworth par excellence

Maybe next step let's try and work out what time of day we think we'll make the train and then select-a-buddy:
Eg 12:15 (not a real train time btw)

    1. YAL
      2.
      3.
      4.

    12:45
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.

  • One train

    1. YAL
    2. cgg
      3.
      4.

    Another train
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.

    Riding back

    1. CowHen (he knows the route)
      2.
  • I'm filing that under 'things which only need to be done once ever'.

    One train

    1. YAL
    2. cgg
    3. CowHen

    4.

    Another train
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.

  • I’m out of the country this week so will probably need to make a call at the weekend but provisionally I’m in..

  • I've got a railcard so happy to get another train if that keeps numbers on the other train for those using groupsave.

    One train

    1. YAL
    2. cgg
    3. CowHen
      4.

    Another train

    1. cagimaha
      2.
      3.
      4.
  • (I also have a railcard, so ditto above)

  • How many people do you need for a group save?

  • 3

  • Just need to get confirmation that I can have the day off, but it's 90%, so...

    One train

    1. YAL
    2. cgg
    3. CowHen

    Another train

    1. cagimaha
    2. pastry
      3.
      4.
  • Can't get the day off, one immovable meeting. Gutted. );

  • @Rod_Munch let us know when you know what the score is as we can do two groupsaves of three tickets one for each train.

Next question, what time train back are people thinking? Trains are 11.00, 11.30, 12.00, 12.30, 13.00, etc. Assuming sunrise of 4:30ish we should be in Brizzle for around 8 I think, giving some leeway for issues I think we should book no earlier than 11 but happy to hear otherwise if people think so.

  • I'm 90% confrimed just waiting for some bike parts to arrive.
I have a railcard so you need to book train tickets ahead thats cool.

  • After my audax level exploits this weekend I can confirm I'm not up for an overnighter totalling 130 miles. So I'll be booking a train back from Swindon, prob for 7ish. So someone take my brizzle slot please!

  • Wait there's two train options? What's the influencer brunch situation in Swindon?

  • @pastry_bot if you fancy Swindon we can track down the finest sourdough in town
