  • This. Arm warmers and knee warmers plus a lightweight windproof take up next to no room and could make the difference between comfortable and miserable.
I'd add a buff to the list as well as it seems to prevent getting a stiff neck if you get cold.

  • Have sorted alternative transport so now have 3 coach tickets up for grabs.

  • Tickets gone

  • Signed up for this just now, cycle spots on train re-opened luckily! Due to circumstances I'll be riding the track bike with only a handful of scattered miles under my belt and 20kg more than when I did the double last year. 51x19 maybe? Anyway, be good to see you all out there again!

  • Whatsapp group again this year and meet near the pub? PM me your mobs and I can set it up.

  • Anyone up for a cruisey 15-20miles tonight around South London after midnight? I was thinking of doing a test run tonight at about 1am if anyone's keen. We can go fast or slow, I'm easy.

  • If people are looking for a warm up Thursday evening, see
    https://www.lfgss.com/events/4201/

  • I’ve DM’d re the group chat as I’m currently riding solo. I’ll be heading to Ipswich after for the 10am train.

  • Food stop in Sudbury, Suffolk at the Cyclist pub -

The coffee is good and I can heartily recommend the ham & cheese toasties.

  • Ordered, thanks for the tip off.

  • Blimey, they seem to have renamed the King's Head--I wonder if that's down to the Dynamo?

I was fairly astonished at first that there should be a pub called 'The Cyclist' in Sudbury, as I'd never noticed it before, but then I realised that it had a different name until what must have been recently.

    Edit: End of 2017.

  • They seem to be really going for it, with a Bicycle Festival:

What I don't like is that they don't take cash.

  • You're very welcome.

  • It's had a complete revamp from how I remember the Kings Head and well worth a visit IMO.

  • At the risk of JIT v2, why do you dislike no cash?

  • It's an agenda driven by large payment systems companies who want to erect an oligopoly on consumer financial transactions by exploiting people's laziness (and it's not 'what consumers want', it's just cleverly marketed). Card payments (mainly by credit card) have over decades lured people into accumulating enormous debt because the value of what they're doing isn't clear to them. It also records every transaction with full personal details. Also, obviously, leaving you with no choice. It's utterly stupid all round.

    What's JIT?

  • Apologies I thought it was you who was anti, Just in Time in the Brexit thread, starting that debate.

I’d disagree, I prefer not using cash. Both here and abroad and I wouldn’t put it as simply as being lazy. I’d agree credit cards have caused problems for some but many use them sensible and as such are a suitable financial tool. Surely as much of this is education or there lack of?

  • Maybe it won't be a full opening or a skeleton staff situation and they are wary of having bundles of cash around that early in the morning?
I am assuming they would take cash in normal hours.

  • Apologies I thought it was you who was anti, Just in Time in the Brexit thread, starting that debate.

Well, the problem with 'just in time' is that it's a bit of a cover for the long distances goods often travel under that heading. If things were produced more locally 'just in time' that would be fine--the idea itself is quite innocuous. As it is, the practice is unsustainable and imposes massive transport problems, but I can't remember having that debate in the EU thread particularly.

I’d disagree, I prefer not using cash. Both here and abroad and I wouldn’t put it as simply as being lazy.

Perhaps not in your case, but many people want what they see as that small convenience of just waving a card about, which contactless has made possible. Obviously, that's only one small aspect of the problem. Others are that many people dislike handling cash, which I like. Again, why should I not have the choice?

It doesn't matter. The upshot of it has been what I've said.

  • Thanks for listing Dan - Last orders for prebooked is middayish today. Sorry about the cashless thing - it's no conspiracy - only the shop next door had two hold ups in two years and we don't want to put staff at risk... but we will be taking small cash on the night for spot sales ...

  • Well, the problem with 'just in time' is that it's a bit of a cover for the long distances goods often travel under that heading.

Part of the JIT philosophy is moving suppliers closer to the factory, decreasing the lead time between order and arrival, thereby reducing waste (and also total transport required).

  • So...i have lurked around here for many years whilst living up north. Now ive moved down south recently and am thinking about doing the dynamo (and ride out to ipswich for a train) last minute and was wondering if there were any groups riding that i could maybe tag my wheel onto? not sure i want to solo it.

    Thanks

  • I'm guessing you are open for regular sales as well as the pre-booked feasts?

  • Last orders now 7pm on Friday 27th : )

  • thanks for note - yes - while stocks last, prebooked get priority as our concept is to get guests fed so they can pedal on ...
