That part of the route is a direct copy of MA3K's rides to Clacton which seem to have been popular. Sure, there are some options that you wouldn't necessarily take in a roadie chain gang but I've ridden it in daylight and overnight and I think it's ok.
Re. route what is wrong with descending the B170 fixies?
Nothing apart from the desire to spend as little time as possible on the main road to Epping when everyone is driving home drunk ...
And balmain always took a right turn on the B1007 and then left and left into Stock.
Sorry I don't understand that bit - the route does take you into Stock by turning left onto the B1007? Turning right, left and left takes you South, as if you are trying to avoid it- then rejoins the route almost immediately anyway (having added half a mile). Sounds like a good opportunity for a race though... :)

I've been wondering how much interest there would be in something like this:

Ask James, he's the only other person daft enough.
And you had your own Garmins.

Hola,
Am playing it by ear due to a few issues, will try to be there at the start depends on how much sleep I have had in the preceeding hours or weekend plans as I maybe going to Beauliegh.

Is that road sign still outside Frinton?
You know, the one that says
"Dover for the continent, Frinton for the incontinent" -

I would love one.

Godspeed you motley bunch. Bring me back an empty beer can from the beach.

Why thank you kind sir...
Just a gentle reminder, as if it were needed, that this is TONIGHT. 00:45 at the polo court.
It would appear we have been blessed with a dry, mild night and even a light tailwind for good measure.
Word of warning for the time trialists amongst us... unless we have some significant stops along the way, anything over about 16mph average is going to result in us waiting around to get breakfast at the other end (although the beach is not the worst place in the world to hang out). As a result, a sociable pace will be advisable...
Unless of course, Will gets a double puncture again - in which case we'll need to don pointy helmets and ride at 25mph to make last orders..

This will be my first overnight ride for ages (I originally switched from regular overnight rides to TNRC because overnight rides tend to wipe me out and mess up other fitness goals) and I'm still working up to pre-accident fitness. So if there's a time trial group, I'll definitely be keeping the remainder company.

Like in Elmers End?

Best behaviour, I promise. Also I don't know the way so I won't be sitting on the front.

Oh, and the last time I met a group for a Friday night ride, the first comment to greet me was...
"I went out after work and had 6 pints and a curry - is there a poo stop soon?"
... stay strong people!

Well that was a spectacular fail on my part, for some reason I thought it was Brick Lane bagel shop. Wandered by and hung around for a bit with some stilton scones and lotus biscuit fairy cakes, didn't see any faces so wandered off home.
Wasn't taking part in the ride but...thought some stodge might help.

Lovely ride that. Now home pondering whether to stay awake or sleep.
Contents of hip flask, Longrow 18yo. Can be found in several whisky shops around London.

can't sleep
don't want to
Survived the ride home and the half a cream cheese bagel, and was doing really well until I woke up from a quick lie down on the sofa, face down, an hour and a half later
That was a near perfect ride: weather, company, route, final destination - all spot on. Couple of obligatory crappy camera photos here

Should have cropped the first one - the discarded chips are all too visible.

There is something strangely hyper-real about that second pic, can't work out where it was taken from to get the view down the beach. I didn't sleep, tho I did at some point realise I was watching the third part of last weeks Come Dine With Me. I have since cured this aberration by going out and drinking beer. I am now waiting for a bloke to bring me pizza. Modern life is awesome.
Everything else seems fine.
