Well, I rode the SDW in a day last year, so let's see how this compares...

Haven't done a long ride in quite a while...
We should do that route I suggested to you... as some training.

Not loving my SS life atm :( Harder than the SDW? I better start looking for bail-out points...

Speaking of which will we get sent a route or are the Sunday E people leading us?
-
• #31
Good plan, would be up for that.

Harder than the SDW?
To put that in context, I meant it's unlikely to be more challenging than riding the whole SDW in a day, which is my current benchmark for stupid hard rides.
Also I think @giofox88 rode bits of this route when it was very wet and muddy, and I don't think he rode the entire SDW afterwards. So I'm not sure he can really compare within my original meaning. Correct me if I'm wrong.
TL;DR it will be hard but lulz.

SDW isn't hard if you do it right (slow). This looks genuinely hard, and at the end you're rewarded with... Bognor Regis.
Edit: missed ^

Perfectly right, I was comparing km per km, meaning this is moar technical than SWD.
Also right in saying I did it (the course from few years back) with the worst possible ground conditions, coming back from an injury and with a bikepacking setup on a Surly Straggler.
That is my current benchmark of stupid hard ride.
With a proper bike (I'd say a hardtail cross), decent conditions and a good level of fitness this is definitely fun and doable, but it ain't easy.

I'm 0/3. Hooray! Ah well, I'll end up having fun anyway. I promise not to slow any of you down. I'll get the route and you can dump me along the way.

Ahahah, the friend of mine I did it with was riding a Kona Unit, he had fun too.. I recommend a gearing close to 1:1 and a wide bar at least

THIS IS NOT THE ROUTE FOR THIS YEAR!!
Yeah. I'm sure that bit along the valley ridge from Ranmore Road is a walking trail only...
I've always wondered what it might be like to MTB ride out to the Surrey Hills - might try that this weekend. @xkittyx @7Üp fancy it? I know a sweet 40 mile 3.5hr loop from Dorking that takes in some nice trails that's arent the bat-shit crazy ones on Pitch hill.

Very, very tempted. Recent roadie rides suggests fitness will just about hold up. Lemme check with the boss.

Pass denied. Other half had, once again, got her dates muddled, she's working that evening and I very much doubt I can do this and be home for 5 pm.

I am not physically prepped for this ride but will be doing it nonetheless (on the plus side my bike isn't creaky anymore, so swings, roundabouts).

@xkittyx me neither, but I will have a few bail-out points pre-marked so if I or anyone else Stops Having Fun it will make it easier to get back to London.
No. I rode this to get to the SWD, was relieved when got to the SDW.
You'll have fun though
