  • I found that last year but thought this year was much better... Just chance I guess.

Props to the absolute king of disco bikes that was spotted at Needham while still dark thankfully. That machine was the best all night. Much better looking than the 9k monstrosity being loaded at dunwich

  • You avoid the worst offenders if you leave late, take it easy, stop for beers. The advantage of this is you get to see the sun come up over fields of wheat, always thought arriving on the beach for sun up was a bit overrated. Plus, like in the London Marathon, the nicer people are slower.

  • C_G, Your last sentence sums up my experience of the 7 or so Dun Runs I've done.
Some of the best conversations/ talking absolute b0ll0x I've had, have taken place with complete strangers, ~75% into the ride, flaked out on grassy roadside verges, no longer feeling that there's any need to rush.
    Bliss.

  • One of the best Dynamos I've done. We started a little later, in a small group of three and didn't push the pace. As a result, we were relatively untroubled by roadie chaingang twats. Had a nice rest up and cooked in a convenient stop midway. I also had no problems with feeling sleepy, which is a first for me - possibly because I gave up caffeine for two weeks leading up to the event.
The Framlingham Oasis was much missed, but the new food stop with the amazing flapjacks, tea and coffee (they were also selling hot food) set up in the front garden of someone's farm was amazing.
The £1.40 can of coke in Snape Maltings on the way home less appreciated.

In total I spent less than £25 (including the train home) for an amazing day's cycling.

  • Yeahbut I can't find Wally

  • Will try this one more time. @ad441 suffering at 330km, nearly home. It was very hot on Sunday.

  • I'm so glad I carried that towel and swimming stuff which I then failed to use because lying on the beach failing to sleep seemed a better option.

Also hoping to break a new Brooks in on a 400k ride is a terrible idea. Lots of bad decisions made this weekend...

  • Had a snatched conversation with Howard about how there seemed to be a lot of inexperienced riders at the start, and whether there was going to be carnage. I was in brixton kit, but was only riding with @ad441 so dont think it was us buzzing you, sorry it impacted on your ride I know whoever it was won't have meant to.

Having done it 5 times, it seems a large part of the experience is what time you leave. We were out at 8.00, and so were amongst the Lycra brigade for a while, but we wanted to get there early as we were riding back.

Was one of my most enjoyable rides to dunwich, the ride back was a lot more challenging, especially with the heat. I also seem to have fucked my heel, it was agony from Sudbury, and is now a bruised swollen mess, but was quite pleased I managed to grin and bear it until I got home.

Minimal sleep deprived hallucinations, although once back in london I did think laura koeensburg was shouting at me at some traffic lights, but it was actually just a Japanese tourist hailing a cab.

  • Drone pic is supremely cool.

Woke up this morning 03:15 with a strange urge to ride.

  • In total I spent less than £25 (including the train home) for an amazing day's cycling.

Normally I come up with some ridiculous scheme that ends up being expensive, but with help from friends of friends waiting for us at the beach, this year was different.

    Train home: 18.75
    Suffolk-priced food + tea: 3.50
    One inner tube

  • Had a fun night out with @princeperch as usual for our 6th or 7th I can't remember. Set off earlier than usual around 8.30 and sure enough ran into all the usual chain gangs caining it past. Think beckingham? was a club kit (orange/yellow) I remember fairly frequently coming past then stopping, then regrouping and riding all over the place. I don't really care if clubs want to come out and ride together, what I don't like is a group riding pretty fast and drafting right up behind me then swinging out at the last second 0.5cm away from my right shoulder. No need for that. I spoke to a few novice riders and they complained about this also.
Saw a few forumers like @howrad and my hero @Rodmunch a few times and obviously on his way coming back.

Had a good time drafting the lfgss tandem for a while. They were going at a very good sociable pace. Said thanks for pulling me along but I don't think it was appreciated by the stoker :-(

Thank god I got the coach and didn't ride to Ipswich again as I was beat. See you all again next year

  • Depending on what time it was the stoker may have said anything, I'm sure it was nothing personal! You're always welcome to have a tow, didn't realise you were there. Tandems are made for drafting, it's only fair really.

  • What Hamrack said! If it was our group, you were more than welcome.

    That was Tamdem BEAST!

  • In fact you should have hollered!!!

    Lfgss represent!

  • haha i think i did give you guys an LFGSS shoutout but i didn't want to 'out' myself as a forumer as i was literally crawling to the coast and you would have been suspicious of my LFGSS credentials...i was riding the blue pompino fixed with carradice saddlebag. was with you guys for about 10-15 miles... but 'dropped' you at the hot dog/lake pit stop :-)

  • ride report to follow later but for now can anyone remember the name of the pub that had the free chips in. was after Moreton

  • Axe and compass?

  • Whaaaaa....free chips. Why was there no signage?

  • The swim was fantastic this year, lovely and warm!

The effect on my joints is like a miracle cure....

  • Next time, no skinny dipping... My poor eyes.

  • ~Hah, there was a variety of body shapes skinny dipping this year, though most had a very white arse.

  • axe and compasses. yes. cheers dude.

I didn't go for the free chips as was following a very strict diet for this ride. fortunately that diet did not include a good pint there

  • Lol, I do remember.
