Thanks everyone for speaking up, it's helpful. It's hard to know the make-up of the group beforehand so I try and choose a mid-point for expectations and we can go from there. I don't have a set idea of the idea for the day but I do want people to have the most amount of fun with the least amount of standing around in the cold on the side of an A-road.
TBH I'll prob start enthusiastic and end up at 16mph-ish and (as in previous years) if there is a group that's keen to go Winter Smashfest I'm happy for them to splinter off and meet us at the checkpoint and/or pub at the end.
Special thanks to @branwen for offering to backstop if needed. I need to update the route so wait a little bit before uploading the route to your garmin.
@timages I'll drop you a line in a min about the ride, nice to have you along.

First post in this thread states
It's not that geared bikes are unwelcome,
I'm only doing the ride if it is fix only.

I'm going to go right off trend and bringing a single speed.
If you can all find it in your black, black hearts to forgive me, I'd be so very grateful.

Hey @Thuekr I'd say come along as most people will be fixed and it'll be a good day out. I can't promise everyone will be fixed but I've ridden with a lot of the people signed up and as they are good riders fixed and freewheel both I'd rather have them along than not. They know not shoot off the front, how to keep pace and their line in a group so I don't forsee any issues. There will be plenty of shenanigans, japes and goings-on regarding the gi and general tarckness of fg bikes I'm confident.

Oh I see then. I'll try not to forget the hip flask this time, for maximum enjoyment.
Can I also come geared if I promise never ever to change gears and stop pedaling?
