  • Apparently the big chop is taking place on Wednesday in the barbers along from the Brixton Academy at 5-30.

Why not pop to the shop first so you can help carry @hillbilly down the road

  • Deed is done - video to follow or on FB (which I'm not, sorry!)

The unmasking of @hillbilly is complete.

Turns out he's a Spaced era Simon Peg

  • More crowdfunding/Shop move info from the shop below!

It's three weeks since our crowdfunding campaign came to an end & we have just about come back down to earth!

A huge thank you to each and every one of you who helped us to smash through our £40,000 target, ending on a final figure of £62,225!!

You may remember that our resident hillbilly Jim swore that if we hit £60,000 he would shave off his magnificent ginger beard... True to his word, Jim went under the knife at our local barbers and had his first shave in more than 10 years! (And his first cut-throat shave ever!!) Good one, Jim. Click here to see the video of the big shave! #shavebrixtoncycles

What happens now? Well, we're busy clearing out the shop ahead of our move in January. We've got tons of stock heavily discounted, so now's a great time to pop in! We'll be revealing our new location soon...

On the crowdfunding side, there were a handful of payments that didn't come through, so we'll be following up on those in the next couple of days, then look out for a survey in your inbox confirming your details for the rewards.

We need EVERYONE to complete the survey in order to deliver your rewards, so please keep an eye out for our email and respond promptly!

In the chaos of packing down one shop and building another, we've realised that this is a less-than-ideal time to have a whole load of extra stock delivered, so we've decided to delay the rewards delivery date until February/March next year, once we're settled. We hope you understand. (Anyone who requires their rewards before Christmas will have the option to receive a gift card in the survey.)

Finally, we're on the lookout for friends of the shop who could help us during the big move! Especially...

People with vans to help move our workshop.
Folks with their own power tools to help us pack down 145 Stockwell Road.
Access to free or cheap storage.
If you think you could help with these or any other skills between January 26-31, please email becks@brixtoncycles.co.uk

For now, we wish you all very happy holidays and we hope Bicycle Santa brings you everything you wish for! ;)

    With love & big thanks,

    The Brixton Cycles team x

  • An update from the BC team:

    Dear friends,

We are now deep into packing up the shop and finalising the lease on our new space. It's been TOUGH! We'd hoped to sign by now; there's still so much to do and lots of stock to shift!

Thank you to everyone who's offered help. Just keeping on top of those offers is a challenge, but we like pro-active people so if you're about between 25th Jan and 7th Feb, please show up and get stuck in!

We will cease trading from 145 Stockwell Road on 23rd January and will be closed for business for at least two weeks, before (hopefully) opening a pop-up repair workshop in our new space shortly afterwards.

We are still working on renovations, so the new shop won't be ready for normal trading until a bit later. But we're excited about what it will be like when we are! (Definitely be time for a party!)

In all this chaos, an already-complicated crowdfunding campaign has become even tougher! Just processing the data for nearly 1,500 supporters is a logistical nightmare, so thank you for being so understanding with the wait!

We also won't have anywhere to store the rewards or pack them up until after the move, so we've had to delay delivery. We're trying our best to have them ready by late February / early March and to ensure that everybody gets exactly what they want.

Please be patient with us as we navigate these challenges. Your support and encouragement is the main thing that keeps us rolling when times get tough. Together we can ride this storm and #savebrixtoncycles!

  • Any chance of letting us know the new location?
I might be able to help out with the use of a car and so throwing stuff in the back and dropping off

  • Not at the moment, the signatures are yet to happen.

However if you help with the move, the location may become quickly apparent :)

  • ha, ok, well I will presume in the Brixton vicinity still! It might make all the branded merch a bit difficult to sell otherwise

  • Definitely still in Brixton :)

  • I hope you signed a 25 year lease...

  • Here you go, new location is out there and the lease is longer than @hillbilly 's beard.

  • woop!

  • the lease is longer than @hillbilly 's beard.

    So non-existent then.

  • For risk of being scobled or something - sorry Ed you are wrong...

I have seen Jim this afternoon and I am happy to report that the beard is making a recovery - lookin' good already....

They are packing up at Stockwell Road and getting ready for Brixton Road.

    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • Had a look through the window of the new place, empty, it looks huge, but it's just a big space with a double front right now. Looking forward to it being fitted out, and the shop front being painted in BC's colours...

  • Greetings folks,

I volunteered yesterday and spent the day helping them with their move.

What a great day that was. Removing anything we could from the walls at the old shop, moving things to the new shop. All mucking in, great banter, great vibes...

We had fish and chip lunch

    I had a very good night's sleep

Yes Cornelius the new shop is / will be lovely and is absolutely HUGE.

The day was as always pure Brixton Cycles Gold...

New place should be opening in mid February - bit at a time....

    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • I thought the move was over the weekend? Happy to help any further, the new place is round the corner and also next to the Crown and Anchor so great place to satisfy the thirst of shifting and carrying stuff

  • Good location on the main drag. Nice one.

So, basically, the lease will have to keep getting longer?

  • Have the pledge rewards been sent out yet?

  • Greetings folks,

Just been by Stockwell Road and it is really empty now... virtually everything now moved....

Hugged the bare walls, said my goodbyes, sniff sniff.

But in other news - hey they're moving and the next exciting chapter will soon begin...

    Peace and love,
    Tim

  • Not at the moment, you should have got an email about it?

I belive It will be done as soon as possible after the move. Maybe drop them an email in the meantime.

Farewell Stockwell Road, oooooh hello new cavernous space....

(It's going to be soooooo good when finished)

  • Mine was in the spam, dated 11th Jan (happened to stumble upon it earlier in the week) -

  • @Ecobeard I just saw a LMNH post on instagram, are we going to be getting beer/food/coffee in there too? It is a deadzone in terms of places around there for a coffee so fingers crossed.

  • I can neither confirm, nor deny, this massively well kept secret :)

    The 'deadzone' will be filled.
