Yeah this.
I "got" the answer, but thought it can't be that.
Didn't even try it.
Took a hint. Took a letter.
It was that. -
• #304
Hmmm, two under but not very happy about that meaning that.
-
• #305
Yeah same

I think it is perfectly valid for "recognise" to be a synonym for "thank" (e.g. to recognise/thank someone for their efforts). -

Use this construction for the spoiler thing, by the way, in case anyone was wondering. -

2 under. Good one today I thought
-

Got the word and took a while to click meaning. I like when they misdirect and use secondary meanings. Part of the fun!

Took a hint and then a letter. Got it after that.

I knew H was involved But I couldn't get it into aquarium. I couldn't think "synonym for aquarium as well damo". Took a letter, it put the H in and then click boom done. -

2 under this morning.
It was about the 4th thing I tried. -
• #313
Also 2 under here.
Pretty simple to spot the definition and the obvious word play bit. Then a quick mental synonym trawl did the rest.
I like the indirection in the definition ambiguity.

1 under. Took a letter. Meh.
-
• #315
I be stumped! Good to know it’s sitting there…

• #316
Fucksake

Go back to it later on with a fresh mind. Get it quickly. Kick yourself.
-
• #318
To be fair, there is a piece of cryptic crossword base knowledge you need for this one.
If you don't know that ...... can mean ...... then you could be in trouble.
-
• #319
Did exactly this. Opened it back up. Ah of course. 2 under.
-
• #320
Nice one!
-
• #321
2 over. Fuck that shit.
-
• #322
3 under today.
I'm really chuffed with that.
I had no idea on first reading but managed to crack it after going through a few different ideas. As usual: hypothesise a definition (not obvious in this one), find short synonyms, find word play indicators, marry them all up.
Then boom.
Really satisfying.

Three over today.
"Fish like" in only the broadest sense.
Biologists/fishologists are appalled.
-
• #324
I think the "like" indicated it wasnt a fish so i think it works. Was still 2 over for me
-
• #325
Agreed, definitely fish like.
Had a few days off and straight in with 2 under par. Bosh!
