lol hadn’t thought that far yet. Might leave my car there the night before nearby.

I've been considering doing it for the first time in over a decade. For the actual Dynamo anyway.
But I don't know if I can be bothered to ride back this time, and coach and train are a ballache or impossible. -

Anyone know if they will be letting bikes on trains in Cambridge? Trying to figure a way back to London
-
• #30
This is what I plan to do. Friend says no restrictions at Cambridge, and those trains never need pre-booking.
-
• #31
I'm planning on riding back, but as expected, Sunday weather now looks shit! 🙄

Considering riding back to Brentwood (first stop on the Elizabeth Line, nearly same distance as Cambridge) - might look at a route that takes in the Harwich > Felixtowe Ferry, anyone ever caught it?
Looks poky but fun. Then there's another ferry I'm considering at Wivenhoe just to add another ferry to the mix.

If ferrys are your thing @honk the Bawdsey to Felixstowe ferry is cute and you can catch more of the nice coastal landscape if you head that way. It's basically a small boat that shuttles back and forth continuously, and takes a very pleasant 3 minutes or so. It's on the Wolf Way cycle route (that I can recommend also). So the potential for at least 3 ferries on your return. As a dynamo first-timer, I'll be taking the coach. Have a good ride!

Ooh good tip, that looks ace.
I might have that one in the back pocket as it starts at 10am. I might have already come through there by that point but if I linger a bit longer around the beach maybe it'd be an option.

do all the ferries!! there are more near Colchester - Brightlingsea and Wivenhoe. You could round it off with the Woolwich foot ferry if you felt like it.
Shame that the Tilbury - Gravesend one has shut.
Both the Felixstowe ones are good fun. The one to Harwich lands on the shingle
-

ps there is another one in Walberswick, but the crossing is only a few metres
-
• #37
Oh no has the Tilbury one shut? Fond memories of getting that at 7am on the London Orbital audax once.
I may add more ferries to this route... though my return leg needs some pretty careful scheduling
-

Yes, I'm afraid so. It shut a couple of months ago. A bit of a nightmare if you lived in either Gravesend or Tilbury and needed to use it for work.
I used to dream about a ride with all the ferries, but kids, life, broken ankle etc etc meant that it is still just a dream

At least the weather looks more promising now. Cloudy, but warm, not too windy, and even the rain seems to have gone from the predictions too. 🤞😁

Reckon it's fine to take a Brompton on the train at Ipswich>London? I know the small train to Ipswich is a hard no.
-
• #41
Anyone have a spare space on return?
I was planning to ride both ways but going on family holiday Tuesday makes that unviable I think :-( -
• #42
I guess I've never used a GPS on the Dunwich? Ridden it twice but don't have any tiles for it. Ripped off! Sad news about the Tilbury ferry. We used that doing the Orbital 300 as a DIY.
Never actually managed to ride all the way back. Ipswich for a train was the furthest and then rode around my house to bring total up to 300k coz I'm an idiot.
-
• #43
Diss used to be my railway station of choice the last two or three times I did the DD.
~26 or so miles from Dunwich, and you are on a train with a seat before the hoards try to board at Ipswich. -

Hi all, I unfortunately can’t make the ride this year as my friend I was planning on doing it with got knocked off his bike!
I’ve therefore got a train ticket from Norwich to London with a bike reservation leaving at 12:00 I believe. If you’re heading from Norwich and have a railcard give me a shout I’ll gladly give you my ticket!
-

I'd look into this pretty well to confirm if I were you, but when at Ipswich a few weeks ago I'm pretty sure they had a sign up saying no bikes at all (I guess without a reservation) on trains from there this Sunday to London, and that included folding if I remember correctly, which would be harsh...
-

A few years back they had security guards refusing entry to anyone with anything resembling a bike or even bike parts, I presume because of chancers trying to pass off slightly-taken-apart full size bikes as folding bikes.

Feck. Ok.

I thought it normally started to roll out of London Fields around 8pm?
Does it start earlier these days?

Hi all, I have two coach tickets if anyone needs to purchase? My friend came down with COVID so we're not going to do it this year.
