Offers: Vic Edwards 531SL 1970s TT frame

  • This has a bit of a story…I bought this as a project but doubt I will have the time...and it is too big for me.

The seller had it built through Graham Buck Cycles in Ipswich…GB didn’t build frames but got others to build his frames including Bill Hurlow…However GB told the chap I bought it from that it was built in Romford in Essex (ruling out BH whose workshop was in Kent)…The seat cluster indicates it was made by a top frame builder and the only one who fits the bill is…Vic Edwards…they don’t come much better.

I have some genuine Graham Buck decals...H Lloyd doesn't have them

Also note the heart cut outs on the lugs.

It is built from 531SL with vertical dropouts and an internal brake cabling….runs with a single chainring (look up Alf Enger on Google).

    Frame measurements:

    ST (C2T): 57cm
    ST (C2C): 55.5cm
    TT (C2C): 55cm.
    126mm rear spacing…so can do 6-7 speed

No dings or dents include Shimano 600 headset.

Needs a respray and possible a brazed on DT shifter boss…but a single band on DT shifter is an alternative..a pip under the down tube will prevent slipping.

£90 ono either collection from Biggleswade in Bedfordshire or delivered to Kings Cross Station.

  • Beautiful frame, and excellent pricing. If I wasn't looking for a Whitfield, I'd have torn your arm off for this. Hope it finds a good home.

  • Thanks....I love the seat cluster.

No need to have torn my arm off...a simple pm would be enough...😄

  • Any sensible offer will secure this frameset.

  • Somebody buy this beautiful frame- I have a Vic Edwards Rondinella really quite similar to this built up as a MGOOF, and it is by far the best riding and best built frame that I have ever owned. It cost me £300 for the frame and I don't regret one penny of it, so this is an utter bargain.

  • MGOOF?

Thanks for your comments…much appreciated…hoping I don’t have to move it elsewhere!

  • Lovely, italienate seat cluster... was of its time and showed off frame makers skill.

    Utter bargain

  • Thanks but you kind of said it ‘of its time’ but maybe not of this time. Which would be a shame as it lovely and I would keep it but it is too big for me. 😿

  • Skill and class is timeless :)

Maybe offering delivery might avoid the dreaded ebay?

  • Fair point! But I haven’t got a box! 😿

  • Modern Groupset On Old Frame. Mine has an (probably) altered rear triangle set to 130mm so has 11 speed Campagnolo Chorus/Record.

  • Mine is 126mm and could be cold set to 130mm…needs a respray and possibly a brazed on RH gear boss to keep it single chainring but a LH gear boss and front mech brazed on cable guides…to enable the use of a double chainset.

  • If I can get a frame box from Halfords…I would have to cut it down…I could as +midlife suggested post the frame.

    Paisley Freight charge £40.

  • Plenty of love but no actual interest in purchasing the frame...so I will give it 24h and then try elsewhere. 😕

  • Photos of the 'other side' of the frame.
