  • You'll be broken on Sunday, bed bugs will be the least of your worries 🤣

  • Ha ha, true!

  • You also have the option of sealing anything you can’t wash in a plastic bag and leaving it for - at the very least - 3 months. That should be sufficient for any bed bugs to starve. Assuming you store it at room temperature, it might take longer if you store it somewhere cold.

This is one of the approaches I took when moving out of a house with bedbugs - massive ziplock bags and an attic. Didn’t return to them for 9 months out of fear.

  • I've been to ADE a few times, and experienced bed bugs once. I would say book somewhere else, if nowhere in Amsterdam then book in Utrecht (which is lovely) or Haarlem. They're only ~20 mins on trains, so nothing compared to commutes or journeys within London, the trains are reliable and regular and anything is better than bed bugs. Especially on a come down.

  • This is a photo on a review of the hotel from one week ago 😑

  • Posted this last time bed bugs were discussed, hopefully of use to folks. The DE was shown to be the most effective method, but needs to be used correctly.

  • mini_com was born at King's the year before the pandemic. But, their maternity ward was just getting over a bout of bed bugs so visitors weren't allowed. Glad they were cautious, but it also sucked.

  • Seriously - I can't believe you're even considering staying there.

  • Trough gimp thread >>>>>>>>>>

  • I'm very much considering not staying there!

  • The DE

    What is the DE?

  • Diatomaceous Earth. Sticks to them and dehydrates them. They trail it back to their hideyholes and it rubs off on others, killing them too. You can buy it either food grade or pesticide grade, the latter being slightly cheaper. The video explains how to administer properly.

  • Gotcha. I've done ADE from Utrecht before, thoroughly recommend, charming spot as well to gather yourself, have some brunch etc before heading in again....

  • Fuck that, Amsterdam has plenty of bushes you can sleep in

  • TBH I'd use the campsite at Amsterdam Noord Park, Vliegenbos, but my mate refuses to tent it

  • Don't go .

  • I'm seeing hotels in Utrecht approx an hour away from Centraal Station?

  • I would camp and feed your mate to the bed bugs

  • I'm sorely tempted!

  • Not quite sure if this is a question - from memory trains to Utrecht are very regular and can be caught from a number of different Amsterdam train stations - fast ones not much more than 20 ins. I stayed with an ex in Utrecht but would imagine there must be hotels and airbnbs near the station....

  • Bed bugs can live almost a year without feeding.
The only way to kill them is heat, carpet cleaner or hard floor cleaner worked for us.
    Wash everything in hot water.

  • Also prolonged cold iirc. Insurance co that handled our neighbours’ bed bugs put all their furniture in a near-freezing warehouse for two months.

  • Cooling your bedbugs will lead to them living longer without food. Bedbugs have survived up to 400 days in laboratory fridges.

That 400 days figure gets bandied around a lot in scare stories and bedbug myths. They can live for 400 days without eating! Yeah, if you keep them in very controlled conditions, sure. If you keep them at room temps then they are extremely unlikely to live more than 3 months.

  • I thought vacuuming and those supermarket spray things worked. Also using a steam cleaner killed the things.
