  • Thread resurrection. Now back in the UK so hoping to finish this. A temporary change of plan means I'm going to use it on the track for a few novice sessions so the front brake will be coming off for now

  • So I made some purchases on an online auction house and picked up 5 singlespeed chains...

  • Wheels wise for the track I've fitted Mavic Open Pros on Dura Ace hubs with Vittoria Pistas...

  • The only thing I need now is a seat post pinch bolt. The seat post is 27.2 anyone know what size pinch bolt that equates to?

  • Nice! Good choice of wheels and tape.

  • As it currently looks hanging in the bike stand...

  • Thanks @kjlem the wheels were my first ever wheel build a few years ago (never used) and the bar tape was a lucky find in a planet x purchase order to make up for the postage cost.

  • Finished. Just done a couple of laps of the close in it. Next outing should be at Derby Arena following inspection

  • Looks lovely: nicely understated. Very upright position. Fine if you're used to it. I have found that having my saddle a long way forward does make handling on a 250m track twitchier. Derby's a nice balance track, other than the strange undulations.

  • I might knock the saddle back a tad. I need to work out a reasonable position. Its time on the boards is probably limited until the Alfano is finished which is a tad larger than this 60cm.
I have to say I love your bikes!

  • Thanks. Having lusted after beautiful track bikes for 38+ years, I know what I like by now. I've also collected a few nice bits and pieces. Gotta love steel pista.

  • I think we are like minded. They are my preference too. Here is one I finished a few years back...

  • Several track sessions done and now at Level 2. This allows me to ride with the supervets at Derby and some of them are in fact aptly named. My 84 inch gearing has been a little restrictive at times so a Gebhardt 52 chainring has been purchased from HubJub (great service) to take me up to 88 inches.

  • Gears are definitely bigger than they used to be. I raced on 86-90" back in the day. Now it's 92-98", even in the vets

  • Yes everyone is pushing 90 plus. I'm hoping 88 is a reasonable gear for an old man like me

  • It'll be ok for training if you're a spinner. Trying bigger gears was a revelation for me, though

  • That's good to hear, as a big lad I've found the high cadence a bit of a challenge

  • Bit of an update. The Tokyo Fixed has been displaced as the principal track bike by the Mercian. Also there is another potential project brewing. So the Tokyo is going on holiday to enjoy track time at Bordeaux.
Also the dura-ace open pro's have been swapped out for these Token hubbed Velocity deep V's
