He'd do better at the election. He has a charm that works on people.
He doesn't, really. It's a combination of two things--one, the power of TV. People trust people just because they've been on TV, e.g. Trump. Secondly, being so insecure Johnson has a very fine sense of what people around him feel. He can therefore engage with that. Even if he was able to use this for good purposes and not cynically, he's such a bad decision-maker, so lazy and incompetent, and so deeply compromised that he should never get close to any position of responsibility ever again.

I am certain that the elections we have seen in the last 15+ years, quite possibly going back to the London Mayoral elections in 2008, and including the 'Brexit' referendum, were manipulated by means of illegal anti-social media data, and influencing people through individually-targeted misinformation. The rise of far-right parties in Europe I believe is mainly due to subversion by Putin's machine, exploiting the instability caused by the rampant injustice that more than 40 years of appallingly bad government have created. This is not only the case in Britain, of course.

I'm sure there would be many unhappy campers but the panic of electoral oblivion would probably focus their minds.
It's obviously unlikely but it is one way round him not being an MP. I'm not convinced Sunak really wants to run an election campaign where they get hammered either.

If someone had said at any point in the last 5 years that the collapse of the Tory gov and TikTok becoming a strategic threat to the USA was coming in 2024 you would would have politely left the room

Some good news at last, 30p moving from Tories to Reform has raised the IQ of both parties.

Sunak is in the game to garner wealth for himself and wifey's family. Once
the India trade deal is signed that's it kerching for Infosys! Think of all that
cash being skimmed off on every visa application etc.
Sunak doesn't care about the tory party it is merely a vehicle for delivering pelf.
As soon as the deal is signed, Sunak, will find an appropriate reason, retrieve the green card from the bedside cabinet and then California beckons. -

Sky reports that a Conservative minister is worried that 'there might be peace in the middle-east' because 'that might help Labour'

It just gets worse and worse doesn't it?
While in a way it's satisfying to see, there are pros and cons. I never thought we'd get a May election (turkeys don't vote for Christmas) but there's absolutely no way we're getting one now.
The House rises on 23rd July, and and you need time between party conference season and the vote for campaigning, so I think we're getting a November election :/
The silver lining to this being that it's not going to get any better, is it.

An opposition front bench member once drank an alcoholic cocktail from a can on the London Underground.
That’s the day integrity, probity and respect for the title and obligations of being an MP died.
Not sure how this country can come back from that?
Politics really is in the gutter. -

the India trade deal is signed
I don't disagree with any of this, but the trade deal is gone, they don't have time and India is having an election now... ish, aren't they? the only thing the India's want is more Visa's.... which is a tuff sell to the Tories.
Sunak just handing out lots of Government contacts to Infosys instead.

bad enoch announced a trade deal with texas yesterday
winning the trade deals -
• #7090
Preumably they're having to do this because they've failed to sign a trade deal with the US as a whole.
Do individual states even have the autonomy to sign meaningful trade deals?
-
• #7091
That won't be much use
Texas, famously, has only a 1-star rating. -
• #7092
They've only signed it because we've told them we've got loads of sodium pentothal.
-
• #7093
Except only the federal government can negotiate and sign trade deals.
-
• #7094
No, not at all. Whatever has been signed is meaningless, and just shows how desperate these Brexiteer cunts are to try and make it look better.
