You can get pretty close without really trying funky stuff.
£220k @ 1% is ~ £800/month
£220k @ 8.5% (some banks have SVR around this) ~ £1,800/monthIf he can't remortgage for some reason then he can end up stuck on SVR. It's been happening to a lot of people.

Especially reassuring given the Tory fetish for a comparative analogy between a household budget and that of a G20 economy.

A lender would normally look at job stability. I wonder what the assessment of his future earnings are?

I'm looking forward to him using his new found situation as a wake up call for the state of the country and calling for measures to improve finances of the common people with a growth focussed agenda of public investment in infrastructure and services.
That or just blaming brown people harder.

I was a bit surprised that it wasn't just suggested that he quietly go rather than trumpeting about how he can't afford his mortgage which really doesn't reflect well on his party.
I wonder if there has been some falling out or everyone was just so naive that it wasn't considered how this would look.

some falling out
Doubt that would happen in such a united tory party as this one.

Andrea. Leasdsome.
Just, wtf“I’m hugely delighted at Brexit. We have our sovereignty back, we’re in control of our money, laws and borders. The NHS has considerably more than £350m a week and we’ve signed up to 70 trade deals.”

Yes, much belief in the present incarnation of the Tory Party.
Belief in the mystical qualities of the free market and that somehow
supply and demand forces will always balance. Wrong!
Belief in Brexit, that the mystical prowess of British decision making will
see everything alright! Wrong!
All the Right offer is perpetual chaos and emotion.
I can't wait to see the back of the Britannia Unchained blowhards and other PPE wankers. -

Labour said it showed he was "totally out of touch with working people".
The SNP said it had reported Mr Sunak for a potential breach of ministerial rules over the "grotesque" bet.
The party's Cabinet Office spokeswoman, Kirsty Blackman, has written to the PM's independent adviser on ministers' interests, Sir Laurie Magnus, and Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, calling for an investigation into whether Mr Sunak broke the Ministerial Code.

Grotesque really. The way he does that little chuckle whenever he talks to someone he deems beneath him makes my stomach turn. As if he's amused that the little people have the temerity to question him. E.g when he spoke to that woman on the street about the NHS

Having 'cost the country upwards of £40Bn' on your resume is certainly a good enough reason to think he's not getting elected again.

Surrey tho...
He has a house in London as well. He gets ~£6.2k a month after tax as a minister so two mortgages at £2-3k each could easily see that salary off. He also has 2 kids and was divorced.
His wife is some theatre person. No idea what you earn doing that but if it's not a lot I can believe the story.
(According to Wikipedia anyway)
