Johnson is now toxic to the wider electorate, we also wouldn't have ended up with Truss without him either, so I dont think this is the path to redemption that some Tory MPs think, maybe with their own party members but no chance wider than that.

But I’d say Rishi will do everything to distance himself from Truss. He predicted what would happen with her economic policy to the letter, all he’ll need to do is get the quid up a few cents, make few vaguely empathetic moves and he’ll be the saviour.

I'd bet on Boris. It'll get to him +1 in the final 2 then the +1 steps aside so no member vote as per Theresa May's win.
I hope I'm wrong.

The problem for BoJo is that the press have removed his legitimacy because he absolutely embarrassed the fuck out of them with his antics after they backed him to the hilt in 2019. As a result, they are now reporting what he actually does rather than just what he says, so he's far less likely to be shitefested over the line in a GE than he was last time.

If Boris is a candidate he's going to win as Brady has confirmed it goes to the membership.
I think Borisconi wants the title from his namesake:

If (fuck it, when) Johnson comes back, how's he going to fill a Cabinet given most of them resigned because they said he wasn't fit for office 3 months ago?

If Johnson is even on the ballot the Conservative party is finished.

Surely if the 1922 committee had any sense, they’d include a clause in the rules for this contest that precludes anyone under investigation by Parliament from standing?
Thankfully, sense and the Tory party are unhappy bedfellows right now.

If Johnson gets anywhere near returning it'll tear the Tory party apart. Again. Even more.
And he is poisoned now - won't be the saviour. -

But the members don't care.

Going to need 100 MP's backing you to get on the ballot, quite a hurdle

Will be pressure on the person who comes second among MPs to pull out before going to the members.
Could be over by Monday/Tuesday.

Could Johnson get 100 MP's to back him? Or is this designed to keep him out/Sunak in?
-
• #1146
Ok, so you get a GE, but Tories still win!?You underestimated the consequences like the Brexit vote? Then what?

This was my reading of the process, i.e. the MPs close ranks against Johnson to avoid the members needing to vote (as only Sunak will be on the ballot).

What about the independent United socialist Republic?

Meanwhile, in Portugal, the modern anti-woke right wing party (think edgy rich STEM students) sees the fall of Liz Truss as another defeat for socialism. The proof that public spending, tax cuts for the poor and pension raises don't work. Yes, you read that right. If you think you have it bad over there, at least rest easy knowing you're not alone

Why is this Party matter, Monday's election(s), being held in office hours,
when they are supposedly employed to represent their constituents? All this internal Party activity should be clearly after 5 pm.
Still quite unlikely for somebody with such poor public polling to win a GE.
