  • Sold my fixie (well, most of it, still have the frameset) out of panic in light of London’s totally fucked housing crisis, got a flat to live in, then serendipitously got a pay rise at work, which has ultimately expedited my descent into my roadie era. Wouldn’t have said that was gonna happen two years ago when I was first getting into bikes.

Need to get some carbon rim specific brake pads as for some reason the previous owner of this bike thought that using cheap shit brake pads for these recently built carbon rims would be a good idea - luckily they have barely ridden it since that so the rims still look barely touched. I haven’t ridden it properly yet cos I don’t wanna use the cheap pads for fear of damage lol. I’ve never used carbon rim brakes so am quite frightened of them.

Road pedals and shoes are on the horizon, but figure I’ll just do the spd shoes for a bit before committing to the spend.

Also really need to take some acetone to that ‘Race Light’ logo. Proper hideous. Like the Stronglight of the road world. If something says it’s strong and light in such a way then it probably isn’t. But I’ll hold out hope as reviews for this Kinesis Aethein are good. Hope the nail varnish remover works…

Excited to get out into the lanes. Any south London folk who do such activities - pls give me a shout I’m new here ♡ ´・ᴗ・ `♡

  • pls give me a shout I’m new here ♡

I'll ping you a message when I'm less broken and I'm riding again

  • ah that sucks man - heal up! What happened?

  • Lampost + collar bone = bad time

  • Balls. Yeah you can’t win a fight with a lampost man. Get well soon.

Any keen readers want first dibs on this saddle? Replaced for something at least twice as heavy but also twice as comfortable

  • got a flat to live in, then serendipitously got a pay rise at work

    Fuck yeah dude!

  • Kinesis looks like a fun bike.

    Keep the fixed!

  • Looks nice! I don't mind the decals

  • @Nef thanks man, almost returning to the normality, praise be.

@Cupcakes yeah man! Had never heard of it but saw this going on eBay for a good deal, then haggled a bit for an out-of-eBay sale for a lower price so the price got even better. Honestly probably will keep it at this rate, build it up in an all-black setup for a return to HHV in the winter

@kjlem tbf I hated it less in person than I did on the eBay listing. Undecided but still leaning to removing them, I think acetone should go okay and or damage the paint??? Hmmm

  • Looks wicked

  • thanks man, it’s cool, very unlike anything I thought I’d own/want/like.
It does need a little bit of personality putting into it though. Matching stem, nice bottle cages, maybe a good ol sticker or two.

What are the good options for cheap-ish modern road suited bottle cages anyone? Guess they have to be carbon right…

  • king cages, frame pump, bin off the decals, thomson front and back, little xpack tool roll and then throw on some stickers for a californian/japanese phone order only bike shop and it'll look like pas normal background fodder no problem

    nice bike

  • Was definitely thinking Thomson front and back when thinking about building a road bike in order to hark back to my fixie roots, but now I bought this bike with carbon bits I’m scared I’m edging towards road weight weenie ideology with this bike.

I’ve got a glittery sticker of a rhino/unicorn hybrid and the logo of the off-road rides I run to go on it later - will they help be become a PNS wanker?

  • masterpiece 27.2 is a mere 196g, i'm sure you could dremel out some material of an x4

but i'd say your plan will get you into the neo roadie mafia no problem without the dental risk

  • Sack off Thomson. Buy questionable quality carbon parts from china and get it down to 6.8 kilos bro

  • this is the way

  • god bless 🙏

  • Thread on this rear brake callipers cable pinch bolt is fkd, is there are spare part one can source?

  • In ‘slight’ defence of the guy I bought this from, I think I was the one who fkd the threads on it from trying to tighten down a random bolt that he must have used a replacement for losing the correct pinch bolt that was too long for the job…

Gotta wait for postage and then fix this before I can ride it :(

Unless there’s a B match donor calliper anyone has/knows of?

  • I’ve got the rear brake working now, took it up the road and back just now.

Oooo eeee getting used to these rim brakes is going to take some time.

And these 172.5mm cranks feel and look enormous. All I’ve been riding lately is my gravel bike that has 165s on, definitely think 165 road cranks are on the horizon.

As you can see I got overly excited and got some road pedals (and shoes) and some proper wanky bottles - shall I call them bidons? - that go nicely with these fake tan walls. Though I do have some 28c Pirelli P Zeros that I want to put on, the tan wall of which will match nicely. Hopefully will finally have some time to go into some lanes next week even if just for a few hours

Fit with the 110mm stem isn’t so bad, would maybe go to a 100mm when if I start looking for a matching Deda Superzero stem though.

Oh and doesn’t it look better without the decal? It came off easy breezy. Started the sticker action but I’m lacking on good stickers - whose has the knowledge here?

  • Looks great!

  • whispers slam it, slam it, slam it whispers

  • nice, I didn't think I would, but I've got to agree about the decal

  • cheers people!

    @PhilDAS it would look good wouldn’t it…
