  • Ha, cool. Looks great ๐Ÿ‘

  • The LB has been put out of duty?

  • Are you still not getting on with the Low trail geometry?

  • The LB is currently in hiatus yes, but not because of the low trail.

Mainly I was a bit bored, and wondered if I could liven up the Muddy a bit. This change definitely solidified the importance of wheels and tyres for me.

  • If one could find 650b rims at reasonable prices I'd love to give this a try. Until then have to stick to 26. Lovely looking muddy.

  • wheels definitely look good on it

  • The drops are much better

  • Thanks all.

Once I start tinkering, I can't stop. Next stop: frame bag and panniers.

  • Thats a great front rack! Who makes it?

Edit: sorry I think I asked this before and it was VO

Does the bike handle differently with the larger wheels?

  • SJS do a few nice(?) ones. Thorn and Ryde branded, under ยฃ30.

  • Very very pretty. I love the rack, one of the ones I really fancy. I recently got some 48c 650bs, pretty sure they'll fit.

Have you not had luck with cantis' reach? I found cr720s not to have enough, ditto for promax v-brakes, but tektro oryx worked really well.

  • Still the bomb. I think this one has much more character than the Crust.

  • @MrBaklava: VO yes, Campeur. Bike handles surprisingly well. Some might say better than the Crust.

@kvragu: The brakes are super long reach road calipers. Almost all cantis or (mini) V-brakes wonโ€™t fit, because itโ€™s a 26โ€ frame and most brakes have very limited adjustment. Paul Motolites would fit and be very cool, but also very expensive.

@vpCogworks: It does have a more special place in my heart.

  • Aye, actually I'm saying I found most brakes too short for conversions too, but oryx were fine for me, might be worth a try? I never really liked how my super long reach calipers performed on a conversion, but reachy cantis were totally fine.

  • Ah, yes. I misunderstood. Admittedly braking isn't super. But who knows whether cantis will make it better.

  • Are they tektro calipers, if so what pads are you using?

  • Yes. Standard pads I believe. The orange ones? Maybe Iโ€™ve upgraded.

  • Swissstop bxp blue are the best, good in most weather, pretty durable too.

  • Will check them out, thanks.

  • Back to 26":

  • Some more from today's ride:

  • 26" ftw. That's a fucking elegant bike that. Majestic; like a gazelle galloping through grasslands.

  • Love that so much

  • Ooh, it just gets better.
