• The Deda superleggero is looking like a popular choice. I've just found 3 other builds using this combo. Seeing this one is making me stick with black sidewalls. I love a tanwall just not on this colourway. I'm using Dark label Boras on mine as well but 50's

  • Got two Superleggero RS stems. 120 on the Affinity and 90 on the Moots. Nicely slammed (8deg and the lowest steerer stack you’ll find on a stem) with a smooth, narrow and low profile. IMO it works perfectly even with one inch head tubes and headsets. For anyone interested it has a perfect line/profile with CK 1” headsets.. cheers. T

  • Deda seatposts look great with the lay back version.

  • Yeah the layback version does look nicer I'm going to check the measurements to see if I'll need the layback version if so Deda it is. Gonna get something ordered this week then tackle the bottle cage dilemma.

  • Always thought the 15mm layback Superleggeros looked great but the inline and 25mm versions looked kinda weird. I'd go Deda if the geo / fit allows you run 15mm, otherwise maybe look into other options.

For stems, the other popular choice on these builds is Extralight, which are great but $$.

  • I can get away with 15mm layback but it seems the 2022 superleggero is only zero or 25%. Love Extralite stuff but the seatpost only comes in 31.6. Maybe I'll go with the Tune then.

  • Wheels and tyres are cleaned up. Treated them to new Vittoria latex tubes and thats an 11-23 11sp super record cassette on there.

  • Wheels are awesome!

Do the stem and seatpost have to be the same brand?
WR Compositi WRC seatposts are suitably fancy pants and very pretty... another option could be a Colnago one. Little Italian flag would match the older Deda stem design.

Re. bottle cages, I bought these Ali Express Carbonworks knock-offs, and they seem decent enough.

  • I love the WRC stuff but the problem with them, Tune, Extralite and MCFK is no uk stockists for any of them as far as I can see so all the Brexit bullshit to deal with seems to add £13-£16 postage sometimes extra for clearances + 20% taxes on top of already really expensive prices. I have considered faking it with a Hylix T-bar carbon post with no logo and adding a little black on white Colnago logo like a mini headtube badge if i can find one on the back of the post underneath the clamp and a Prime Doyenne lightweight stem and getting it re sprayed gloss black to lose the logo. It'll be a nice looking super light combo and less than half the price of the next cheapest options. I was looking at the exact same cages last night. Well worth a punt at that price. If i keep everything else really light on this i reckon i could have this coming in at 7.5-8 kg🤞

  • I’d be going silver post and stem on this with those chrome forks and stays.

  • I can see how the black seatpost sort of works blending into the paint of the frame, but the stem on that build above looks totally out of place to me.

  • I think that stem looks worse because it's long on a short headtube with a massive chimney on top. Mine will be a 100-110m slammed on a slightly taller headtube. Agreed that one looks top heavy. Hadn't really considered silver due to weight but what are my options? Thomson and Nitto?

  • Yeah I guess with limited options I’d prob go Thomson. But slammed and chopped and I guess it will look a lot better and maybe it will work.

Frame is a beaut and wheels will look great. Agree re the black tyres too… looking forward to seeing this

  • Found these which are beautifully made but possibly not shiny enough and no uk stock and even the German websites I've looked at won't ship to the uk

  • Yeah those are nice. If silver wasn’t your first thought tho I’d try and borrow some stuff first to check it out.

You definitely don’t want quill right?!?! (I get it…)

  • I think a something like a Titan would look great but I'm try to keep this one on a diet which is why I've not really considered a quill stem on this but i have no issue with them in use and this one is pretty

  • Will a titan add much or any weight (assuming it already has a threaded fork)

Titan is ~ 270g, adapter (~150g) and stem (~110g) would come out pretty much the same.

I am running one at the moment and it seems solid and hasn’t slipped.

  • i always use cheap tape for the first few months in the event I want to change the lever position or the bars or something.

i'd asked about the fork because i personally don't like a black headset and cockpit with a chrome fork, and i think the stem / bars / post should be the same color, at the very least. really i think they should all be of the same lineage unless you're using a campag post.

p-e-r-s-o-n-a-l-l-y, I'd do black groupset, black wheels and cranks, silver headset stem bars post.

no way on earth i'd use a threadless adapter.

    opinininions

  • this is the direction i'd go but with a prettier post.

  • I've had quills before and the same as you never had any problems. I was thinking a light bolt on stem with shim, star nut, top cap and bolt would come in more like 170 g all in as I've seen shims for 13g. The fork will not be threaded but I've seen a couple of build vids for these where they cut the steerer short and wind a thread on the the top.
EDIT: just realised you meant a quill to threadless adapter. I won't need one and if my fork was already threaded I'd go quill straight away as i don't fancy using an adapter.

  • The wheels and groupset are black carbon including cranks. I agree the black version would look better with a Colnago force or star fork especially as I'm trying to go all black with this but they all seem to be either attached to C40's with no NOS anywhere and i don't want to pay £150-200 for a tatty old Carbon fork. A Woundup would also look really nice so i may save up and swap/upgrade in the future as they are back in stock for the moment at least. Found this lovely Nitto stem which has just jumped the queue so now try to find a suitability pretty silver post. I don't mind mixing brands on these if they have no noticeable branding. Nitto seatposts are so heavy

  • oh your fork is threadless! my bad. i like that stem, but i'd probably not commit using it near a chrome fork unless i was comfortable with switching it should it look a bit too much.

no idea why im jumping in the thread so much.

  • The Nitto UI-87EX stem also looks tidy, faceplate bolts a little more subtle than the one above?

  • Simworks x Nitto best looking so far and available in silver or black 🤔
Not the lightest but so pretty i think I'm prepared to make an exception for this one. Which seatpost will complement this stem the best? A masterpiece?
