Jesus christ. Tempted to dibs 2) Wheels, Tyres, Valves - £375
But I'd need to look into getting and xdr driver for them
-
• #3
From what i remember the XD driver is only compatible with the Boost wheelsets - i switched from a 38T x 9-44 setup to 40T x 11-46 as i was using an XDR based cassette prior to this Shimano XT one.
I am curious as to why that is the case though, as id have thought the relative compatibility should be pretty straightforward - i never had an XD driver to experiment unfortunately.

90% sure xdr is just xd +1.85mm
So you just whack a spacer on and you can run xd cassettes.
The reverse is obv not true -
• #5
Ah shit, I'd be looking to use the with a 12 speed Red axs cassette or 12 speed Eagle. Obvs would need XDR for Red or normal XD for eagle though.
No real need for these but much want. Hate them and love them in equal measure!
I'll have a quick google and see whats what. -
• #6
This was also my thought @lowbrows, as IIRC the reasoning behind not being able to run XD on here is because of the hub spacing not allowing an XD cassette to sit far back enough on the freehub without fouling etc...
XDR however may eliminate that 2mm overhang that may be the reason for the supposed non-compatibility....
I dunno -
• #7
Aye, this is correct. In an ideal world I'd be able to put an xdr driver on these.
-
• #8
Yeah, i cant be sure @TotalShanner because i didnt experiment and succumbed to switching back to the XT cassette as everything i have is shimano 11spd - i only use the XD/XDR drivers to get 11spd cassettes such as the E13 ones with wider ratios

Précis.

• #10
Agree also
-
• #11
They are technically brilliant though and their R&D and build is ridiculous for a £1500 wheelset

Ha, I run a bailout cassette on my 303's as it was cheaper than switching out the Zipp xdr driver!
Indeed it seems I can't run an xdr driver on these. Some strange compatibility issues explained on Road.cc
I'd only ever be running these 12 speed.
It seems that a Microspline driver is compatible with this non-boost version though. All the Microspline cassettes are 51t monsters. If only there was confirmation on what standard 12 speed Dura Ace is going to use...It pains me but no xdr is probably a deal breaker for me :(
Edit - anyone have any inclination if 12 speed DA will use Microspline? I had assumed it would but not certain

If only these were adult sized :-(
-
• #14
Yeah course man - id be the same if i was running SRAM 12spd
-
• #15
Haha - probably run larger than most 700c gravel wheels with the 2.1"/50mm tyres on!

(that might have been the least offensive thing youve said to me on the forum ever)

• #17
I shall try and put that right, forthwith

Do you know if these convert to QR?
Tempted for a ‘fun’ wheelset as well (which I obviously don’t really have space for either, but anyway)
EDIT: rear is all i care about as i have hybrid, Thru-front QR rear

Yeah this could be an option but probably a bit too much of a compromise. I have a complete axs groupset ready to go. Would potentially mean messing about mixing and matching teeth profiles, flat top chain blah blah blah.
Not to mention I have a perfectly good set of gravel wheels that weigh close to half of these Spengles!I want these wheels for the ire they will provoke in other riders more than anything tbh

I know...
Just imagine it, Santa Cruz wanker AND wanker wheels. Almost too good.

Part exchange with cash your way for a Columbus futura adventure fork (used once), 110mm ? I can spray to a show finish in any colour you want :)

@Fishfabs really appreciate the offer, but I’m on a mission to clear out all unnecessary items currently, and my stable is pretty set right now (for the first time ever) so can’t see need of the fork.
Pop me a PM if you’d like to make an offer - will happily entertain if you can collect the wheels
Thanks -

Open to offers if these can be collected from central London - happy to meet at central stations like Euston / KX / Liverpool Street / Waterloo / London Bridge etc etc

Spengle Full Carbon Monococque Gravel Wheelset
Bought these for a bit of fun - bloody great wheels, super stiff and sound great
Havent got the space to have a 'Spare' 'Fun' set of wheels in the apartment
They have an excellent rim profile that ride very comfortably - stiff to transfer power and effort yet absorbant on rough stuff
All info on them can be found here:
https://www.spengle.com/product/gravel/
Some superficial marks from use, nothing functional.
Bearings and freehub super smooth.
