Some big names there.

Would have thought Angus Young was a bit old for this but more power to him, got to find something to do while gigs aren't on I guess.

Has Mark Beaumont done an ultra race before? Will be interesting.
-
• #5
I was thinking this. Maybe not.. be interesting to see how he lines up against people like Lee and Angus

Yes, it is interesting. I am pretty certain he's not done a race before - only his own solo challenges.
He has a big brand so I would expect that he would have some media involvement - a film crew along - and that he wouldn't have entered unless he was pretty sure he could win it.
It will be fascinating to see how he goes. He's got loads of power but is a big object to get over hills.

This looks excellent, looking forward to following. Thanks for starting the thread.

I'm sitting in Inverness waiting for my train home having just finished riding the route so I'm very excited to follow this year's race. I did it in 10 days (with a detour at Fort Augustus because of a major mechanical) and I'm in awe of how quickly the leaders did it in 2019! It's so tough on your body and bike

nice! any pics?

I certainly do, I thought it was an amazing route and couldn't believe how remote some parts in Wales and Scotland were;
Pennine Way
Next to Cheddar Gorge
The Gap
Moel Prysgau Bothy (my first bothy experience)
Scout Moor Wind Farm
Kielder
Glen Lyon (where my front disc pads shook loose and disappeared)
Loch Ossian

Awesome! 10 days a good pace or would you do it slower next time?

I planned it as a challenge to raise money for a charity close to my heart so it was right at the edge of what I can do. I'd say you'd want longer to do it if you want to savour it. Can't underestimate the amount of climbing, and how slow going some of the gravel/ loose boulder field passes are

Top work.

Cheers! And yes I do have a fundraising page thanks;

I've linked my Strava so you can see all my rides on there, including the detour off route to Inverness to get new pads.
Sorry for derailing the thread away from the race but hopefully this whets the appetite ahead of Saturday. -

No no thanks for sharing.

He once asked us at a grass track event if we could let him win for the crowds. He’s a grade A bellend.

I wonder if he's tried the same trick with this event!

Dotwatcher embed works for me, as does direct: https://www.followmychallenge.com/live/gbduro21/
Gbduro site barely worked for me beforehand. Still broken now.

Love this insight! Was it for a GCN feature or pre-BBC? And how did he pose the request...begging, threatening, don't you know who I am??

So Angus Young running away with it and Beaumont back in 8th. Maybe he's lost a lot of time signing autographs, or maybe he's taking himself a bit less seriously than in the past.
Or he could have misjudged how hard it was, I suppose - but unlikely as I expect he does his homework.

I think Mark's tracker isn't working properly. Hasn't moved since 5 this morning.

Persistent phone calls to the organisers/angus begging them to let him win.
Rider list for 2021 has just been announced. Looks like it could be a good race!
