  • Afternoon all. Bit of an odd question but I'm very new to EVs.

I'm thinking about trading up my 2015 petrol VW Polo to a a cheap EV, and the MG ZS feels like it ticks enough boxes to make the grade, I'm looking at ones from 2020 and 2021.

There's loads of examples on autotrader but I notice a lot of them don't have full service history, which has always been something I've looked for in a petrol vehicle. Is lack of FSH normal or less important with an EV?

  • I've got a Nissan EV annual health check report here for mine and there is so little on it as an EV drivetrain is mechanically so much simpler than ICE.

Battery health check is the big thing (it gets a whole page) the rest is just a basic brake fluid/pads, tyres, air con+ air filters, lights etc. checklist on a single page.

  • Transport of the car was arranged by a Ukrainian dude who runs a charity/support network which goes around rebuilding people's roofs damaged by shelling. He sent me regular updates of it getting prepped and out in the field.

  • Current ZS EV owner, 7 year warranty is void if a service is missed.

  • Sorry, should add, I've had no issues with the car, perfect for what I need nursery/school run.

4 years in, no noticeable degradation of the battery. 140ish miles in summer, 110miles in winter, driven in normal mode(out of Eco, Normal & Sport) KERS level 3(default highest setting).

Average of 3.6 Miles/kWh over the 4 years.

  • Great info, thanks to you and @Tango130 - I'm risk averse so I'll be hoping to get the full service history - that 7 year warranty is very tempting - but good to know there's less to go wrong in general with an EV. Very much appreciated.

  • Given how little warranties cover. I'd try and make sure you get one with the best condition battery you can find and not worry too much about how long is on the warranty

  • Have you driven an Ami? I'm thinking BMW i3 potentially.

  • With the second hand car, the car dealer warranty didn’t cover much. Mostly ICE engine and mechanical stuff.

Worth seeing whether you can get a car with a manufacturer warranty on the battery remaining just in case. Our Leaf has about 1 year warranty left on the battery, which is handy in case it craps out.

Also a cute detail on the Leaf, don’t know if the newer versions have this, but it has a solar cell on the top of the rear spoiler which tops up the 12v battery.

  • Nope, would love one but I have a 75mile motorway commute 2-3 days a week...

We do like i3's, definitely an option.

  • A friend with an MG says he’s expecting the warranty on his Z4 to be increased soon to match that offered in Asia and the far east.

  • Very interesting choice of EV infrastructure:

  • Disabled EV drivers only. Quite niche.

  • Could it not be that the charge point is there in case someone is disabled but also needs to charge? Usually the EV only spots are not in the most accessible places.

  • Anybody considering a Kia EV3 in the near future? UK deliveries start in 4-5 months

  • Saw the reviews. Looks great for the money. I test drove an EV9 the other day. Still considering it... it's fucking massive though.

  • EV9

Saw a dark green one irl. Look smart in a Range Rovery way. 7 seats right? But yes. They are very, very large.

  • Green? They don't sell one in green. Grey, black, red, white or blue. Wouldn't mind one in a dark green.

They're essentially RR size which is mad. Looking at a 6 seater version. Don't want to go into details on a public forum but got some parental health issues which means we'll need more transport options in the near future and this ticks lots of boxes.

  • I could have misremembered, but I'm sure it was that dark kia green. Google says 'Deep Forest Green'.

  • A few months back I thought to myself it was only a matter of time before this started appearing.

  • I can't remember who but sure someone here works for polestar. Anyone know who?

Looking at ordering a Polestar 3 to replace my Tesla.

    In you go

  • Yeah. Fair enough.

  • Anyone got an estate EV?

  • I sat in an i5 Touring recently and it was great. Two problems with it:

    1. Battery isn't big enough compared to weight so range isn't good enough
    2. Syntner BMW took down all my details for a test drive of one the following week but when I turned up, they acted like they'd never seen me before and didn't have a car available on site

    Fuck you Syntner.
