2009 | 17:50 | A.Schleck, Contador

Porte and Kwiatokoski was mostly the driving force of that time no?
-
• #2082
The wind plays a massive part on Ventoux so any comparisons are worthless.
-
• #2083
We know that both Armstrong and Pantani were doped to the eyeballs, yet their time is by far the slowest of that little sample due to the strength of the wind that day.
-
• #2084
And there was a big cross / tail wind today.

The wind on Vontoux.

I'd love to see an explanation of his methods. How does he time each rider, given the tv feed might not be showing every group at the time he needs to start or finish their particular time? Does he time the favourites group collectively, i.e. does he start the clock when the first rider in the group passes?
-
• #2089
It won't let me drag the start and finish points to the exact locations, but starting yards before Chalet Reynard to finishing yards before the summit comes out at 17:13, which corresponds with Vingegaard's time, according to that chap.

That climb at the end isn’t much (3km at 3%) but could be interesting to see Greenedge etc try and give Cavendish some problems.

Tao mentioned in an Instagram post this morning he is still suffering back pain from the crash on day 1 for those wondering why he's a bit subdued.
-
• #2099
Ah, thanks, I did wonder. Hope he recovers during the race.

He showed a hitherto unseen sign of weakness today, after Ineos had set a hard pace up the climb. He recovered, but it will give the likes of Ineos, Jumbo-Visma and others (EF if they had a team) renewed hope.
Wasn't that just because he didn't have to follow Vingegaard? I thought it was clear that it would all come back together on the descent.
