  • I really like the idea of a zwift meet up/chat, my internet isn't great in the garage so I'll test out the best way to do this. Maybe a midweek evening would work well, it'll definitely help with my motivation

  • I am no longer Zwift companion after some upgrades a while ago ( my PC can work only for Trainerroad), but I did the meet up with my phone and the zwifting with my crap internet in the garage.
    Might work splitting like this.

  • @Norfolkbound makes Phil Gaimon look like a fat lazy slob, pass it on.

  • Could set up a discord sever for a q&a. I might be into this.

  • good tip, discord is super easy for this. (and many LFGSS are damn videogamers :P )

  • Is discord good? On a tangent I was trying to decide on the best platform to host something similar and settled on Zoom, I opened discord but it didn't look super simples

  • Good for some things, it's sort of like having a group chat, with a live call going on at the same time, all the time. Its also really popular with some subjects, for example we used it a lot when working on crypto projects at work because everyone was using it outside of work.

  • I can check for very long network cables next time I'm in work if that could help and if the distance is manageable - we do have a few of those knocking about from time to time so might be in luck!

  • I was thinking about doing a zwift group ride next Tuesday 21/12/21 at 7pm, yes it's an awkward time but it's the time I ride and dinner is late for me. I'm going to do the chat via discord as I think that's the easiest thing and most popular with zwift, also ones who aren't ridding can easily sign in for the chat too which is nice.

Anyway I've got 39 days left of this and I managed to commute for the first time in a few weeks which is very helpful so catching back up will be easier now. I deliberately stopped yesterday at 8pm in order to get a decent rest/sleep for me to get back into the routine of commuting as I need the variety to stay motivated. Also 100km+ after work on the turbo is as hard as it gets with this challenge, I really struggled last week with that so I took Thursday off to ride 150km to the North Norfolk coast.

  • To organize you have 2 options: meetup or joining an existing groupride. For a 'private' meetup the others need to be friends with you on Zwift and you need to invite them individually. You, as an organiser, will have the big yellow arrow above your head.

Alternatively you pick an existing (smallish) groupride and ask everyone to wear the same jersey. But ofcourse that is more public, pace is set by the organiser and it won't be that easy to spot where you are.

(Maybe you knew all this and my post is redundant.)

  • I think I've been doing too many group rides which are just drop in and join, completely forgot about the private groups and that everyone has to be friends. I'll have a think as joining a existing event could cause issues but we could always join at a set time and place and then ride. And for late joiners they could follow my account and select ride with when they join

  • You should start a list.

  • Things have slightly gone to sh*t, manageable but it's a pain right now. So my sister (house mate) works in London in the week and she returned yesterday with Covid symptoms and is waiting for her PCR result. Luckily I was already at work when she returned so we haven't been in contact which is a relief. I'm currently living out of a bag and staying at my girlfriends until I know her result but I'm swinging by the garage to turbo for an hour or so in the evening to top up the distance for the day. Not having all of my stuff is a bit of a nuisance, but if she's positive then I've made the right decision.

Yes i know the current rules about covid etc are different but I don't want to risk getting ill again with 37 days left of this challenge. On the upside the commute is longer and I was followed by a barn owl for about a minute. This was bliss

  • Sounds a sensible thing to do to me!

On a completely selfish note, where was the Barn Owl? I haven't seen one for years and I fancy a ride at the weekend. :)

  • It was on Common road going towards Forncett, if you go from Silfied Road > Wattlefield Road > Broom Road > Common Road then you're likely to see some deer too especially at sunrise. Attached is from this morning too. It's on my commute and i love it

  • Wow.

  • Mate keep you strong and faq covid!
    You are nearly there!!

  • Thanks, I might not make it quite as early as you though! That is a superb picture and deserves reposting on this thread

  • Thanks, definitely FAQ that. I'll make a better plan once I know the result as I have a few places where I could stay and take the bikes. I'm so close to finish now; 17 days off work and 20 days at work. I have a few days holiday that I can use if needed too

  • What are the scores on the doors now?

Looking to you for motivation over these next couple of dark weeks.

  • been following throughout the year and so awed by your sustained effort. good luck and ride steady in these final weeks, incredible that you’re about to reach your goal

  • Any zoom zwifty meeting virtually rideable?

  • @Norfolkbound turned up on my strava a couple of days ago to point out that 25,000 kms for the year is in touching distance for me.

So, I now need to average 73km for the rest of the year. That was the kick up the backside I needed not to trail off towards the end of the year.

  • I'm at 33,072km on day 332 so I'm 128km down which is good. I only had 2 nights away from home last week and was able to go back on Friday night which was needed.

@zincfingers thank you, it's a lot about staying safe now as even getting a cold will be hard to recover.

@Albb this is on my to do list, it might end up being between Xmas and NYE though? It was originally said about this week but i haven't had a chance to sort it sorry.

@HousecatHST well it would be rude not to :) I'm very impressed by your early starts, i know the reasons but the dedication to get up and ride at 4 is inspiring

  • Only 4K a day to make up.

That is so amazing. Looking forward to seeing you eat up the Ks over the holidays.
