  • Really? Where at? I have no idea who they are but I have some of their tunes in my collection!

    Haha what a legend!

This? Tinrib is literally the only name I recognise.

  • Yeah. Tinrib is the only act I’m remotely bothered about. He was very much a pioneer of that NRG sound. Absolute legend. Incredible production standards.

One of my big regrets I never got to his Superfish night at the Fridge so I thought I’d best jump on this. The rest of it will be the usual mix of HH and trance.

  • Ha ha. Not seen that. It doesn’t paint him in the best light.

Decent mix of his stuff: https://on.soundcloud.com/U8PUbn763esJhdiF6

What?! It's banging. I'd go see him just for that remix :D

If you skip the live stuff there's actual releases in the playlist

  • Cheers - I’ll have a spin through. Fairly sure I’ll have heard everything he’s done at one point or another. Very much what I was into when I was younger and still enjoy the odd blast of it now. It’s a bit different when you’re not in a club every Saturday but I’m pleased to see all these events are now 2pm-10pm or similar.

  • I just had a look and I have bugger all Tinrib in my collection. I've definitely got some in youtube but the only mention of Tinrib is this tune by Ganesh

  • It was a great label. Next time you’re in a trance mood, check out either of Weirdo’s albums.

  • I know everyone says this about music they like but it baffles me he was never bigger. I think he emerged, unhelpfully, at a time when people into trance were going mad for more mainstream stuff like Tiesto and Van Dyk.

  • Yeah, I lost interest in most trance when it moved towards the big strings and vocals. Matt Darey used to play a bunch of tunes that I liked but it was hit and miss. Just too much vocal and too 'soft'.

I've been blasting Astrix stuff recently (psytrance) and quite enjoying that, which is nice as I've found psytrance pretty boring for the last ~20 years. I bought 3 albums of Dimension 5 the other day (ie. Dimension 5 - Transdimensional). I don't know how I missed it back in the day but I got into that recently thanks to someone uploading the whole album to youtube.

  • Yeah I love Astrix. I’d love to get to one of those big psytrance nights.

Some great mixes recorded at Tribe of Frog’s NYE night in Bristol: https://on.soundcloud.com/UEEDCmL8MDgqgcQX9

Oberon, Beamish, Blu Peter, Escape from Samsara was peak trance for me.

This should be in the trance thread but it’s last days of Rome for Lufguss now so IDGAF.

  • I'm just loading up my beatport cart with Astrix releases.

I've always wanted to see Astral Projection and I'm still a bit annoyed I chased a girl instead of seeing them in Melbourne 20 years ago :D

"Oberon, Beamish, Blu Peter, Escape from Samsara was peak trance for me."

I don't really know any of them. In Oz we only seemed to have the German stuff like Superstition, which I'm totally fine with. Then later on goa trance was a thing and I have a bunch of Astral Projection, Hallucinogen, etc

Oh, how could I forget Platipus Records - I still smash their stuff today.

Trance uses a lot of 303 so IDGAF either.

  • Platipus put out some incredible stuff over the years - mainstream and more underground. Saw Hallucinogen a few times at the Fridge.

Blu Peter was signed to React who did the Reactivate series of compilations which are well worth checking out: https://on.soundcloud.com/8x9EQENqaEGrZ2gx8

Most of them seem to be on SoundCloud these days which is good because all my CDs are very scratched.

We all have those regrets. I spent my 20s flaying myself in the dying newspaper industry. For all the good it did me I wish I’d moved to a squat in London and put on free parties.

  • Hallucinogen

This is a trip down memory lane:

  • Stopping this to start listening to all the stuff you've linked. :)

  • I never owned any of the React stuff but I do have a lot of the Trancemaster series.

I remember my mate getting Trancemaster X (10) and various tunes on it blowing our little minds. We were both deep into making tracker music and he had MIDI synths and stuff back then too (he was actually good at it and went on to work for Nintendo I think doing games music, I just made noise)

I think I might do lunch turbo with that Tinrib mix...
