On a more normal budget, we have a KitchenAid kettle, doesn't do temperature control, but feels solid and is all stainless inside.

If i had 40 grand on a kitchen it would beva smeg . 40 quid max please .

Hob top ones are awesome.

for fastest boil times, measure how much water you want to boil and only use that much

Dualit Kettle - expensive. Leaked. Bin
Magimix Kettle - expensive - impossible to replace plastic bit broke on the lid so it wouldn't close. Bin.
Bosch Kettle - cheap. Still kettling 8 years later.

Bosch kettle for 10+ years. About to switch to induction hob-top though, if I can convince the other kettle operator.

Doesn't seem particularly quiet but boils pretty quick and you can boil it with just a cup or two of water. Had it for ten years probably.

Considered a hob-top one when I got an induction hob but decided that I wanted something that turned off automatically (main reason) and to be able to boil water when I'm using all the spots on the hob.

It looks like you have to pull the spout cap off to pour it.

I’ll find out I guess. Friend has it with no probs. I might not use the cap anyway, just set the hob to turn off after x mins

Sort of, but you flick it up with your thumb or first finger while holding the handle. Your hand is well away from the direction of the steam.

Grabbing hold of a plug and pulling it out of where the steam comes from seems a lot more sketchy. Especially if you're in a hard water area which might cause the plug to be given a hard pull as lime scale builds up.

But then I had a bad steam burn on my hand as kid, so maybe over cautious.

Ours vents steam sideways so no issues grabbing the end of the whistle. Limescale hasn't built up on mine as it's constantly abraded taking it on and off
